London based – international travel required for (sometimes extended) visits to participate in various project activities.

Team to be developed

Job Purpose:
• To provide support for the development of a major internationally recognized pipeline project/s involving Kenya, Uganda and potentially Ethiopia.
• The project also involves a major marine terminal with substantial crude oil storage and an offshore pipeline system to a loading buoy.
• The project involves a high wax crude which requires a heated/insulated pipeline to become the longest in the world.
• Initial scope is to provide the correct general guidance, systems of working and controls that ensure the ongoing fitness for purpose of the pipelines design and related equipment in accordance with good industry practice and in compliance with all legislative and/or regulatory requirements.
• To work with the engineering lead to ensure appropriate development of concepts and alternative options to reach a common goal of good design to support the development of specifications, design drawings, vendor package awards and construction contracts.
• To support the development of standards, specifications and operating procedures both internally for the team and overview of those produced for the pipelines.
• To support the Project Management / Engineering Management in a project engineering type role to manage the pipeline aspects of the overall project.

Responsibilities / Key Objectives:

• Support to the Overall Project Manager in respect of the Pipeline Project and sharing some duties to push the project forward, organizing meetings, ensuring procedures are followed and a professional approach is maintained.
• Support to engineering to review, supervise and organize engineering consultants, contractors and specialists providing a range of inputs to the development of the project.
• In this early stage of development support will be required to run the Pre-FEED scope, leading to development of a FEED package.
• Support to supervise a team for the execution of the FEED leading to full pipeline project execution in coordination with other functional managers for Terminal, Offshore and AGI works on the pipeline.
• Develops (with the team) the philosophies, standards, designs and specifications that are integral with development requirements, project objectives and operational requirements.
• Contributes/participates in design reviews, HAZID, HAZOP. RAM and other studies.
• There will be an opportunity to run small specialist projects for surveys, test programmes and additional owner requirements.
• Ultimately, for the right quality candidate, an opportunity exists to progress to managing the pipeline, terminal or offshore parts of the project.

Financial Responsibility:
Financial authority structure to be advised. The incumbent will participate in decisions and technically assurance for capital equipment and works of $ high tens/hundreds of millions value.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Engineering degree (preferably Process or Mechanical) or equivalent

• Extensive experience in the discipline within the international oil and gas industry including from concept development through to operation.
• Able to carry out conceptual design, technical/operational feasibility studies, planning and cost estimation.
• Knowledge of the full range of pipeline technologies, installation methods and operational procedures applied in the oil/gas industry including: onshore, intra field/ inter field / trunk systems, flow enhancement technologies (for e.g waxy crude), hot oil pipelines, pipeline integrity management.
• Ability to travel internationally to onshore sites as required.
