The Role:
•Lead the piping design team on small/ medium size, single discipline piping and layout design projects or being technical focal point for 3-D piping and layout design to ensure the overall integrity of the 3-D design model. The tasks cover onshore or offshore feasibility, conceptual, basic engineering, FEED, detailed design and EPC/ EPCM projects.
•As a Lead Piping Designer on project, he is responsible for the following:
•Advise the Department Manger the manpower and skill levels required to ensure smooth execution of the project.
•Assign work to the project team appropriately.
•Liaise with other departments, clients, vendors, subcontractors and third parties as required by the project.
•Participate in inter-disciplines, project, client, vendor and subcontractor meetings.
•Overall responsible for the manhour & schedule monitoring and control and quality of the work produced.
•Clarify/ Answer relevant site technical queries.
•Primary involvement in a typical project includes:
•Prepare piping specification, standards and design instructions under assistance from Piping Material group.
•Perform pipe stress analysis under assistance from Pipe Stress group.
•Perform pipe support design.
•Prepare key plan, plot plan and equipment layout.
•Prepare piping general arrangement and piping isometrics.
•Perform data consistency check/ clash check for 3-D models.
•Participate in 3-D models review.
•Prepare piping and bulk material take offs and bill of material.
•Prepare data sheets, specifications & requisition for piping bulks and perform vendor offer review & technical bid evaluation, carryout vendor drawings/documents review and vendor data incorporation.
•Prepare sub-contractor construction scope of work for EPC/ EPCM projects.
•Prepare scope of work, manhour and input for cost estimates for proposals.
•Groom young piping engineers and provide advice to peers in his field of expertise.
•As a Technical focal point for 3D design team on project, he is responsible for the following:
•Assign work to the project design team appropriately. Ensure the integrity/ interface of 3D design among dedicated units/ areas.
•Liaise with Lead Piping Engineer for technical information interfacing clients, vendors, subcontractors and third parties as required by the project.
•Verify 3D piping and equipment model in the reference P&ID’s and all relevant information.
•Operate 3-D models review and assist Lead Piping Engineer to propose design solutions during the 3-D model review session.
•Participate in inter-disciplines, project, client, vendor and subcontractor meetings as required by Lead Piping Engineer.
•Assist Lead Piping Engineer to clarify/ answer relevant site technical queries.
•Primary involvement in a typical project includes:
•Prepare key plan, plot plan and equipment layout.
•Extract piping general arrangements and piping isometrics coordinate to design team for 2D drawing annotation.
•Perform pipe support design in coordination with Pipe stress analysis. Review support type and location indicated on the IFC isometric in accordance with approved stress isometrics.
•Perform data consistency check/ clash check for 3-D models.
•Conduct/ Operate 3-D models review, incorporate comments from 3-D models liaised with Lead Piping Engineer.
•Prepare piping and bulk material take offs and bill of material.
•Assist Lead Piping Engineer to prepare sub-contractor construction scope of work for EPC/ EPCM projects.
•Groom young piping engineers and provide advice to peers in his field of expertise.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•Minimum fifteen (15) year experience in piping engineering in the Oil & Gas, Refineries, Petrochemical, Chemical and related industries. Experience should cover at least ten (10) year experience as designer of piping and layout design.
•Highly motivated and strong leadership quality.
•Conversant with International Codes and Standards and Engineering Practices used in the industry – ANSI/ ASME codes.
•Good working knowledge of AutoCAD design procedures.
•Competent user of 3D modeling design software (PDMS, PDS & Autoplant).
•Offshore platform design experience is an advantage.
