The Company:
Our Client’s engineering division, has been a leader in the design of drilling facilities for offshore platforms worldwide for over 30 years. The company’s 700-strong workforce provides a range of engineering services from pre-project and Front End Engineering Design (FEED) through detail design, construction support, hook-up and commissioning.

The Role:
Purpose Of Job: Creation and development of engineering solutions for allocated jobs/projects.

Area(s) of Responsibility: Technical integrity of engineering within own area of responsibility.
Delivery to schedule.
Delivery to budget.

May supervise other engineers and designers for particular jobs / projects under instruction from Lead.

Key Tasks
a) Supervision of Discipline Engineers under own control, and for the technical content and quality of work produced by these discipline personnel.
b) Originating engineering documentation for allocated workscopes, e.g. calculations, design reports and specifications, and checking similar documentation and workpacks created by others.
c) Direction of Discipline Designer(s) allocated to own area of responsibility and frequent liaison to ensure coordination.
d) Raising requisitions for purchase of engineered items and services
e) Technical input to procurement activities and raising requisitions for purchase of engineered items and services.
f) Checking engineering content of design deliverables for allocated workscopes, e.g. drawings, bills of material.
g) Review of Supplier / Vendor documents.
h) Representation of with Clients and Suppliers / Vendors in a professional manner.
i) Following discipline procedures for document control and use and retention of check prints / IDC comments prints. As directed by the Lead Discipline Engineer.
j) Assistance to the Lead Discipline Engineer as directed.
k) Production of cost effective engineering solutions that are fit for purpose, safe and add value to the Client. Motivation of discipline personnel allocated to own area of responsibility to do similarly.
l) Execution of work within manhour budget and time schedule.
m) Identification of areas of concern and/or increase/reduction in scope and communicating the findings to Lead Engineer.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Use of safe approach in design and working practices, following the objectives of the Office and project specific Health, Safety and Environmental Plans. Encouragement of attention to safety in personnel allocated to own area of responsibility.
• Awareness and understanding of the business drivers within the company / Client relationship and how these can be influenced by innovative designs and fit-for-purpose solutions.

Business Development
• Development of good working relationship with Client and site personnel.
• Use of opportunities at meetings with Clients, Vendors etc. to learn of additional work which client could undertake and to promote clients capabilities.

Departmental Development
• Liaison with the Lead Discipline Engineer to identify areas for development and to implement improvements in working practices
Systems and Processes
• Provision of information as required by client Systems.

• Communication with discipline team and other project disciplines to ensure design integrity and consistency.
• Assistance with development of Graduate Discipline Engineers and Trainee Discipline Designers.
• Frequent liaison to ensure coordination between Engineering and Designers.
• Adherence to the clients BMS.
• Keeping up to date with technical developments, client national and international standards and legislative requirements related to the role.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
1. Excellent understanding of ASME B31.3
2. A good working knowledge of other piping standards from codes such as, but not limited to, ANSI, API, ASME, ASTM, and ISO.
3. Pipe Criticality experience
4. A good working knowledge of CAESAR and use of Stress Isometrics.
5. A good working knowledge of Pressure Relief Valves including calculation of reaction loads.
6. A good understanding of hydraulic oil pipework relating to, but not limited to, hydraulic pumps, motors, and cylinders.
7. A good working knowledge of Line Conditions and Line sizing calculations including Pump Sizing . A knowledge of Pipeflo or other similar software package would be advantageous.
8. Good communication skills and a good grasp of what constitutes like-for-like change out and what needs greater analysis that would involve work being undertaken in the Aberdeen office.
9. Good P & ID understanding.
10. An understanding of Hazardous areas.
11. An understanding of Survey techniques including Point Cloud
