The Company:
Our client, a major international operator, seeks Piping Engineer to join their team in Houston, Texas!

The Role:
Piping Engineer represents the owner’s team and plays a critical role in defining extensive piping scope of work required for the project, which includes central processing facility and casing gas collection sites layout and then working with contractors and other stakeholders to develop all necessary engineering deliverables needed in Pre-FEED, FEED and Detailed Engineering as the project progresses.
• During pre-FEED, work in an integrated manner with the Engineering Contractor (pre-FEED) to lead the development of the conceptual field and layout plans. Coordinate and ensure optimized design of the critical piping systems, which supports operating steam injection and production targets.
• Work in an integrated manner with Engineering Contractor (FEED and Detailed Design) to ensure all piping engineering deliverables meet the quality requirements and support the Project requirements as documented in the Basis of Design.
• Provide piping engineering input into system design optimization opportunities.
• Lead review process for piping specifications development, identify required SME support, ensure their input into the review process, consolidate feedback to the contractor and make sure that robust and adequate piping specifications are developed and approved.
• Review piping, in-line instruments and specialty items MTOs for cost estimates.
• Provide piping engineering expertise to the development of Brown field execution philosophy, plan and estimates as well as early production facilities concept development.
• Provide piping engineering review into other engineering deliverables requiring piping input (e.g. P&ID, equipment data sheets).
• Coordinate with HES to ensure the piping systems design supports the safety, environmental and security objectives of the project.
• Coordinate with operations and maintenance to ensure the piping systems design meet operational safety and reliability requirements.
• Provide piping engineering input to operations plans for system commissioning and start-up.
• Support the management of change process by early identification of potential scope changes and provision of piping engineering input for evaluation of change impacts.
• Support the interface management process and risk management process by early identification of potential risks.
• Support project assurance activities (e.g. design assurance reviews, IPA, peer reviews) by provision of technical documentation and support materials. Participate in applicable VIPs and best practices and identify applicable lessons learned.
• Support permitting and other regulatory activities through final regulatory approval.
• Support project wide safety initiatives including implementation of Incident & Injury free (IIF) and Safety VIPs.
• Reviews mechanical design of projects for technical accuracy, compliance, completeness and feasibility to governing codes and CVX requirements.
• Establishes technical guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new manners and draws

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
BS preferred or equivalent experience BSc (UK)
• Minimum of 20 years experience
• Experience in planning for developing deliverables needed for conceptual, front end and detailed design
• Experience with translating project process safety and environmental objectives into design objectives in a practical cost effective manner.
• Experience with formal processes to assess safety and environmental risks, and then implementing solutions.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Extensive knowledge of industry standards relevant to piping, specification development and review experience
• Extensive knowledge of oil field, utility systems and process plant mechanical equipment and piping systems and off plot pipelines. Steam networks design is a plus.
• Experience in design and fabrication of CRA piping is desired
• Experience in developing and evaluating and optimizing piping networks for large complex integrated facilities requiring very high reliability while still maintaining a strong cost focus.
• Extensive experience with designing plant lay outs
• Experience in 3D model development/review process
• Working knowledge of software used in the design i.e. Microstation, PDMS, Pipephase

• Innovative thinker, with an ability to tactfully challenge conventional paradigms.
• Able to work in an integrated fashion with operations, drilling, contractors and partner representatives to review and optimize engineering designs.
