The Role:
Reporting to the Earthworks Agent on the £130m Crossrail SE Section project in Abbey Wood, SE London, the role requires development of methodologies for Adjacent Line Open (ALO) working. Works will include bulk earthworks, piling and trackside ancillaries. The successful candidate will have experience of civil engineering works in the rail environment and ideally knowledge of the constraints applicable to ALO working.

Project Description:

The £130m South-East surface section of Crossrail covers the two mile stretch from Plumstead to Abbey Wood station in South-East London. The works involve the installation of two new overhead electrified Crossrail lines to the North of the North Kent Lines, starting from a tunnel portal at Plumstead and continuing to Abbey Wood which is the terminus station on the South-East section of the Crossrail route.

The works also include modifications to several bridges and a major remodelling of Abbey Wood station in addition to the creation of a new Crossrail platform.

Reporting to:

Embankments and Ancillaries Agent

Responsibilities:

Safety of the operational railway while undertaking works adjacent to open lines
Develop ALO methodologies in conjunction with construction teams
Liaise with ALO responsible manager and possession planner
Produce and own project procedure for ALO works
Prepare detailed ALO work plans and drawings
Brief ALO site co-ordinators on a daily basis
Undertake ALO site audits to confirm compliance with ALO work plans
Archive and file all complete ALO briefing records, work plans, change authorisations and site audits

Comfortable with high levels of responsibility
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Experience of civil engineering within the rail environment
Communications and interpersonal skills for engaging with both client and delivery team on this project (which has established a Collaborative Working ethos acknowledged by accreditation to BS 11000)
Good knowledge of ISO9001 and Network Rail Quality standards / procedures
Experience of producing sequence drawings and staging diagrams to visually communicate works methodology
Happy working in office and site based environments concurrently

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Knowledge of civil engineering plant – excavators, cranes, piling rigs, dump trucks
Experience and formal qualifications for auditing
Experience of undertaking piling and bulk earthworks
Current PTS
Driving licence
Available to work weekend and night shifts as necessary
Current CPCS Appoint Person or Crane Supervisor
