The Company:
Our client, a major owner/operating company, requires expertise for their ongoing oil sands mega-projects in Alberta.

This position is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only.

This position is a rotational fly in/fly out role, management-style camp accommodation.

JOB FUNCTION:
The Planning Engineer coordinates aspects of progress measurement, schedule development and schedule control.

Responsibilities and duties:
1. Provide project schedule and progress measurement support.
• Participate in kick-off meetings between the EPCM contractor and PT, to ensure common understanding of schedule, and progress measurement requirements
• Conduct briefing sessions with respect to project planning requirements and processes
• Cooperate with IPR teams and post audit activities with respect to project planning functions
• Participate in gathering and recording lessons learned for the project

2. Supporting PT and Cost Stewards with ongoing project schedule analysis, reporting, and forecasting.
• Develop and document Control Schedules (annual and multi-year), and ensuring that these products reflect the approved project design/execution scope
• Analyze schedule trends, develop and review schedule forecasts
• Monitor and report on schedule implications of changes
• Participate in developing Contract Control Schedules and Milestones
• Respond to ad hoc requests from PT related to Controls/Reporting

3. Monitoring and appraising the performance of Contractor's Site(s) in the areas of progress and schedule control.
• Examine and evaluate the Contractor’s schedule control organization, plans, performance and procedures
• Review schedule and progress baselines and forecast prepared by contractors
• Analyze schedule and progress trends developed by contractor
• Review and endorse progress measures reported by the contractor
• Review schedule bases of contractor's Change

4. Maintain regular contact with the other Project Services organizations and the Project Estimate and Controls organization for the overall project (in particular the planning engineers).

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Thorough and extensive knowledge of:
 Project controls principles, theories, and concepts
 Large Company practices, processes, and expectations with respect to project controls
• Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business Administration with relevant experience, or 10+ years experience in the oil and gas industry
• 3+ years of project controls experience with an emphasis on schedule control achievements over cost control.
• Upstream / Pipeline / Offshore Engineering, Procurement, and Construction experience, experience in area similar to Sub-project preferred
• Experience in managing relevant contracts
