The Role:
Pre-Developments Onshore Reservoir Engineering Advisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

My client is currently seeking a reservoir engineer to work within the Onshore Pre-Developments team in Houston. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with a highly skilled multi-disciplinary subsurface team on conventional and unconventional projects across the globe.

The position reports to Reservoir Engineering Team Lead and will provide reservoir engineering support, including conceptual development planning support, for Pre-Developments in the Onshore Business unit. The successful candidate will have experience in classical reservoir engineering methods, unconventional reservoirs, production forecasting, economics, commercial awareness, reservoir fluid & rock characterization, uncertainty analysis, reserves evaluation and experience with reservoir simulation. A key work product will be to provide timely and accurate subsurface analysis for assets in Pre-Developments, as well as providing support to Exploration, New Ventures and Global New Business Development on an as-needed basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Completing subsurface evaluations for Pre-Developments assets including:
o Reservoir potential assessment including PVT, SCAL, Pressure/Production data review. Working with the geoscientists/petrophysicist to understand reservoir characterisation.
o Working with the geoscientist to develop in place volumes, production forecasts and potential reserves potential, including using analytical and simulation methods depending on data and time available
o Reviewing analogue data to help quantify reservoir deliverability and recover factors.
o Working with the drilling and facilities engineers to model appropriate development plans for economic analysis.
o Within simulation models incorporate the full range of static and dynamic uncertainties to bracket production rates, recoveries and development options (through use of ENABLE or other)
o Integrating the profile, volume, and cost data into a business case including associated risks and uncertainties to enable the corporation to make portfolio decisions.
• Take an active role in preparing field development plans, including documentation and presentation of those plans to management as appropriate
• Provide reservoir engineering input to progress investment proposals. Supporting reservoir engineering analysis should account for static and dynamic uncertainties, and show consideration of alternative development solutions
• Coordinate the Budget and Plan process for Pre-Developments projects. These are typically assets that are not in production and require budgeting around appraisal that will be done including things such as drilling, data acquisition, and studies.
• Provide one-on-one mentoring to less-experienced reservoir engineers with emphasis on the application of reservoir simulation
• Ensure high quality standards for managing reservoir engineering data and field models, ensuring consistency with local and global guidelines
• Participate in peer assists and peer reviews, specifically review workflows around and inputs to simulation models
• Participate in the annual reserves process, including allocating current and future volumes using the P1-P6 system
• Operational RE support for Formation Evaluation (Pressures, Samples) in Exploration/Appraisal Wells.
• Support for planning, design and execution of DSTs

SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:
• Good understanding of all subsurface issues with functional understanding of geology, geophysics and reservoir and fluid characterization issues and how they relate to reservoir performance and development planning.
• Experience in field development planning and economic evaluation.
• Clear understanding of estimating and communicating subsurface and project uncertainties.
• Reservoir simulation skills, sufficient to create or direct the creation of simple simulation models that adequately characterize the reservoir and fluids, define the reserves distribution accurately and enable the generation of field development plan scenarios.
• Experience working on tight oil, unconventional reservoirs.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, confident representing opinions at technical and operational meetings involving management, peers or Joint Venture partners.
• Capable of problem solving and always looking for efficient operational solutions.
• Interest in mentoring early career staff and transferring of knowledge to the broader organization.
• Self-starter, able to work independently and collaborate fully as part of a multi-disciplined team.
• Able to work to tight deadlines and effective at multi-tasking.
• Positive attitude and proactive team worker.
• Interest in broader project challenges such as government relations, commercial issues, etc would be a plus.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), economic software (PEEP), Monte Carlo software (Crystal Ball) and engineering software (for example: Eclipse, ENABLE, Prosper, MBal, GAP, PVTSIM or PVTi, Kappa, Sapphir, Topaz, Diamante, PI Process Book, OFM and GIC, PetroVR)
EXPERIENCE PROFILE:
• Broad global industry experience is required.
• Experience working assets under Appraisal/Development/production is preferred.
EDUCATION / TRAINING:
• Master of Science / Engineering degree in Petroleum Engineering, or a closely-related discipline in combination with directly related experience.
