The Company:
Our client is a global leader in the design and delivery of infrastructure, power and major engineering projects around the world. Their clients come to them for a wide range of advice, resources and skills - in engineering, maintaining infrastructure, managing construction, planning and strategic thinking.

The Role:
We are currently recruiting a Principal Rail Civil Engineer to work at our clients Birmingham based offices, the ideal candidate will carry out the following:

Effective leadership and delivery of tasks as assigned, in particular:
• Delivering engineering (design and consultancy) specific tasks;
• Contributing to the engineering input to engineering (design and consultancy) projects;
• Contributing to the engineering input to multi disciplinary railway engineering (design and consultancy) projects;
Provide a strong technical capacity to undertake and lead others in the design and assessment of railway civil engineering including bridges, retaining walls, platforms and lineside civils.
Fulfil the roles of nominated Project Manager, Project Engineer or Task Manager as required by individual projects. With particular reference to their clients projects, undertake the role of civils Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE).
Maintenance of own working knowledge across aspects of engineering and contribute to developing company expertise in same.
In all activities to contribute to the development of our client's business in the field of railway infrastructure engineering.
Leadership and Management
To lead, direct and undertake engineering activities within the group, in respect of both civils design and consultancy services. To lead multi-functional rail projects and coordinate work packages with those undertaken by other groups. To provide specialist technical support and assistance to rail infrastructure projects.
Build and maintain good relationships with clients, and contribute to marketing of company to potential customers. Effective leadership of the formulation of proposals.
Communication & Team Work
Engineering delivery with respect to both design and consultancy services. To support multi-disciplinary rail projects and contribute to work packages undertaken with other groups.
Key contribution to overseeing, mentoring, development and training of junior staff and to contribute to resource planning, allocation and utilisation.
Systems & Processes / Safety and Environment
Observation of all company Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental commercial and project management disciplines and procedures, as relevant to tasks undertaken. Compliance with client's standards covering design, Health and Safety and operating procedures.
A working knowledge and experience of client's procedures and operations (including Group and Line Standards).
Experience in the assessment, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design of civil engineering structures such as bridges, retaining walls, culverts and lineside civils.
Design of structures/civils works to Eurocodes.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Degree level education.
10+ years experience in relevant field of engineering.
Chartered Engineer – MICE or MIStructE (or equivalent).

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Previous experience of fulfilling CRE role.
Experienced PTS card holder would be advantageous.
CSCS card holder.
