The Company:
Our client specialise in the design, manufacture, assembly, test, installation and commissioning of bespoke solutions for the nuclear decommissioning, defence, and nuclear new build markets.

The Role:
Role purpose:
• To work flexibly to undertake a variety of control and instrumentation design activities associated with the design, test, substantiation and installation of high integrity mechanical plant and systems.
• Support the Technical Manager in major business activities and special projects.
• Supervise and support others in engineering.
• Responsible for ensuring technical accuracy and delivery of design projects through multi-disciplined teams, satisfying time, quality and costs to the standards set by the engineering department.
• Liaising with mechanical, safety and analysis personnel to optimise solutions.
• Ensuring allocated staff satisfies fully their accountabilities.
• The candidate must have a broad knowledge of designing complex control systems in machine control & process applications and plant wide automation where specific experience in the Nuclear Industry would be an advantage.
• Must be capable of producing technical & functional specifications and developing designs from concept through to testing and commissioning.
• Must have strong interpersonal and communications skills with excellent analytical, design and problem solving skills and be committed to maintaining high quality standards.

Key activities:
• Support the bid team in determining overall requirements in terms of cost, time, resource and technical content of control and Instrumentation design concepts and therefore providing control and instrumentation input to tenders.
• Develop control system designs following project award from concept through to project handover.
• Designing and formulating plans which satisfy these requirements in conjunction with allocated staff.
• Co-ordinating and managing all engineering activities on allocated projects or part projects as required.
• Contributing to the development of allocated junior staff as appropriate.
• Leading discussions with internal and external customers and suppliers in order to ensure that programmes are delivered to specification, cost and time.
• Co-ordinating with other areas within the business in order to ensure the provision of appropriate design support commitment.
• Working within and maintaining required records for all work in order to satisfy company standards, procedures, national quality and legal requirements.
• Keeping abreast of latest technology and identify technology developments and resources appropriate to the business needs and engineering activities.
• Compiling cost and programme estimates, and managing to cost and programme for a group of tasks.
• Writing and checking reports as appropriate.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Experience in a similar role within the nuclear industry (EC&I)
• Educated to degree standard or equivalent in an electrical engineering discipline
• Experience of design and checking of LV electrical distribution and control systems for installation in the nuclear industry
• Knowledge of Safety Standard IEC 61508 would be an advantage.
• Proficient in the use of PC’s – MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
• Eligible to work in the UK without company sponsorship
