The role

Currently looking for a Principal Engineer – Civil, structural and Architecture to work as a Functional Discipline Head (FDH) taking responsibility for discipline specific activities across the project and will support the Engineering Design Manager in developing the design information to the level of definition required to support the project delivery strategy. As a Functional Discipline Head you will work closely with the Engineering Design Manager and Area Engineering Managers and they have responsibility to promote consistency of approach across the project in meeting designated standards and legislation.

As a Principal Engineer – Civil, structural and Architecture / Functional Discipline Head your main duties will involve:
• Development of designs to satisfy technical specifications
• Checking and approving design calculations of designers and other engineers within the team
• Probable lead of design reviews, safety reviews (risk assessments/ HAZOP’s) from technical standpoint within discipline
• Close liaison with client and project team to prepare technical specifications for the design
• Ensure quality and delivery of design documentation throughout the design process including scope of works, method statements, risk assessments, technical files and other technical documentation to comply with design standards, safety legislation/regulatory requirements and the needs of the client
• Management of installation, commissioning and operating documents
• Allocation of work to other members of team in order to ensure delivery of design to quality, time and budget
• Selection, strategy and management of work to sub-contractors
• Ensuring quality design work is carried in accordance to company and client procedures
• Promote Civil, structural and Architecture excellence across the Company

As a Principal Engineer – Civil, structural and Architecture / Functional Discipline Head you will have experience:
• Degree qualified in a technical / engineering discipline is essential. MICE or MIStructE, CEng status would be an advantage. A full UK drivers license is essential for this position as travelling between offices may be required.
• Significant demonstrable competence gained in a design delivery position within a project based environment
• Significant man management and client liaison skills.
• Experience in the nuclear sector is preferred but not essential. It is a requirement of the position to demonstrate experience gained in a similar position ideally from a highly regulated industry. This could be from but is not limited to the Defence, Pharmaceutical, Oil & Gas, Automotive, Water or Food industry sectors
• Full knowledge of Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering & Architecture design including seismic design.
• Experience and/or ability of leading a technical team within a professional project multidiscipline delivery environment are necessary for this position
