The Company:
Our client is a nuclear specialist, covering both civilian and defence sectors, across the complete lifecycle from New Build, through Operations and Maintenance, to final decommissioning and waste disposal.

The Role:
The role

Currently looking for a Principal Engineer – Piping & Vessel to work as an Area Engineering Manager responsible for multi-discipline engineering design integration across their respective systems & areas. As the Area Engineering Manager you will be responsible for the design of specified areas and systems of the plant and will support the Engineering Design Manager in developing the design information to the level of detail necessary for scheme design. The Area Engineering Manager’s will work closely with the Engineering Design Manager, the SDP Space Management and Co-ordination Manager and Functional Discipline Managers and they have joint responsibility with them to facilitate and promote cooperation within the team in the delivery of the project.

As a Principal Engineer – Piping & Vessel / Area Engineering Manager your main duties will involve:
• Complete the Preliminary Design
• Manages the design integration across responsible areas
• Confirms engineering compliance with the project Safety Case
• Supports Throughput, Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (TRAM) case against the Project Business Case
• Delivers the area engineering functionality in support of the Project Functional Specification
• Ensuring quality design work is carried in accordance to company and client procedures
• Management of engineering resources with in Area.
• Ensure an integrated multidiscipline delivery
• Regular review of design activities within discipline across all projects
• Discipline ‘champion’ and ensure continuing professional development to all staff
• Monitors, reviews and provides timely and accurate reporting on engineering status and progress against schedules, develops recovery plans and initiates / coordinates corrective action when required.
• Reviews and endorses requests for tender, tender analyses and purchase recommendations for procurement of equipment and services within Engineering’s scope of responsibility

As a Principal Engineer – Piping & Vessel / Area Engineering Manager you will have experience:
• Degree qualified in a relevant technical / engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of piping and vessel within a nuclear environment would be an advantage but not essential.
• Experience in the nuclear sector would be an advantage although candidates will be considered with experience gained in a design delivery role ideally from a highly regulated industry, such as the Defence, Pharmaceutical or Oil & Gas sectors
• Technical experience could be gained from but is not limited to precision, heavy engineering, pipes, vessels and pumps
• Experience of in cell piping would be a distinct advantage
• Experience and/or ability of leading a technical team within a professional project delivery environment are necessary for this position
• Basic knowledge of PDMS and ACAD produced design
• Sound knowledge of the following aspects of Piping Design (In and Out Cell):
- “In Cell” Piping Design
- Vessel/Piping orientation
- Seismic qualification
- Piping Flexibility requirements
• Piping Wall Box design requirements
