The Role:
• Carrying out control and instrumentation system design activities.
• Carrying out control and instrumentation system troubleshooting activities.
• Liaising and co-ordinating with other discipline groups to ensure deliverables are produced to meet deadlines and within budget constraints.
• Producing and reviewing documents, study reports and design calculations and ensuring conformance to engineering quality and competence and project management system.
• Assisting with the management of discipline resources, including input to manpower plans.
• Ensuring compliance of all activities with the company's Health, Safety Environmental and Quality policies.
• Promoting safe behaviour at all times.
• Coaching, supporting and developing control and instrumentation engineers and draughtsman to achieve their career potential.
• Represent contract or project in corporate engineering function issues
• Assist the Lead or Chief Engineer when required in the management of the discipline design function.
• Supervision of instrument staff under their control, & responsibility for the technical quality of work produced by them.
• Be conversant and knowledgeable with respect to current and new legislation and standards e.g., BS, API and Client codes and standards, DCR and HS&E Regulations and EU Directives
• Be aware and understand the business drivers within the Client organisation and how these can be influenced by innovated designs and minimum cost solutions
• Production of cost effective designs that are fit for purpose and safe.
• Approval of all engineering documents created by the Instrument team.
• Identification of appropriate resources for engineering works and forward planning of resources, taking into account cross asset requirements
• Compliance with Client engineering procedures and industry, international and Client Codes and standards.
• Assurance that personnel within the Instrument group are competent. Identification of inadequacies in personnel and proposing solutions such as training, coaching or replacement
• Responsible for assessing and identifying deviations to standards, that will benefit the Client & their Clients, and gaining acceptance of Client Technical Authorities
• Responsible for input to project plans and schedules, achievement of agreed schedule, during the course of any project or study or early identification of project areas of concern with necessary corrective action identified
• Progress of the works under their control and the achievement of targets. Responsible for reporting progress as per company systems and procedures
• Producing engineering deliverables registers and controlling the works against those registers
• Identification of increase or reduction in scope, raising the necessary support documents for Project Control Purposes
• Preparation of engineering and construction scopes for both man-hours and equipment estimates where necessary
• Responsibility for the integration of the Instrument design into the overall project work-scope, & ensuring that Commissioning, Maintenance and Operational requirements are included within the design.
• Responsible as a key member of any project team for achieving the project target and completion of the project within the budget and schedule
• Shall take into account all aspects of the "Health and Safety at Work etc. Act (1974)",
• Knowledge of, compliance with and promotion of office, site and contract/project health and safety guidelines and procedures.
• Comply with the Client Safety Management System
• Take part and contribute to construction risk assessments and construction method statements
• Take into account all relevant procedures, guidance etc. relating to the work, which will ensure compliance with Client Safety Management System
• Shall ensure all personnel working under their direction are aware of the requirements placed upon them by "Health and Safety at Work etc. Act (1974)" and the Client Safety Management System

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Degree or equivalent in an Instrument engineering discipline, HNC / HND Acceptable
• Chartered
• Field Instrumentation - Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Level, Pneumatics etc
• Wellhead Control Panels / Hydraulic Power Units ( WHCP / HPU )
• Instrumentation / Equipment for use in Hazardous Areas.
• Control Valves, Shutdown Valves, Choke Valves and PSV's
• Diverse Protection Systems - HIPPS, IOPPS etc
• Emergency / Process Shutdown ( ESD / PSD ) Systems
• Fire and Gas ( F & G ) Systems
• Process / Distributed Control Systems ( PCS / DCS )
• Sub-Sea Control Systems ( SSCS )
• Programmable Logic Controllers ( PLC )
• Metering Systems
• Package Vendor Interface Management
• BOSIET/FOET Offshore Survival Certificate and Medical
• For degree qualified personnel; the completion of an IET / IMC recognised graduate training programme or equivalent including a period working as a Senior/Principal Instrument Engineer.
• For non graduate personnel, a career progression from ski
