The Company:
Our client is a nuclear specialist, covering both civilian and defence sectors, across the complete lifecycle from New Build, through Operations and Maintenance, to final decommissioning and waste disposal.

The Role:
Main purpose of job
To deliver customer requirements in terms of cost, programme, quality and safety through the management of a team of multidiscipline engineers working either on a single large project or a number of smaller ones

Position in organisation and key relationships
Reports directly to the Project Manager and Engineering Manager
Normally supervises a team of between 5 to 10 engineering staff, although the team may be supplemented by staff from other teams and by agency staff and work may be sub contracted to others.
Responsible for the allocation of work and managing quality, progress and cost of the work carried out by the team
Responsible for managing subcontractors
Regularly interacts with clients, managers of other engineering disciplines and sales and marketing staff.
Responsible for ensuring clear communications with the team members.

Duties and key responsibilities:

Design & Technical Consultancy:
Leading a team to effectively meet customer needs.
Guiding technical solutions.
Presentation of designs and calculations prepared by others.
Final approval of all Technical, Safety and Commercial documentation across all disciplines related to the project.
Provision of technical support and advice to customers

Project Management:
Production of cost estimates, resource plan and programmes.
Ensure customer requirements are correctly interpreted.
Monitor resource levels, rate of progress and expenditure of the team compared with plan, and provide corrective actions.
Identify and manage project risks
Manage Claims on subcontractors
Prepare reports as required by management

Sales Support and Customer Care:
Presentations and customer visits
Identification of prospects
Development of prospects
Proposal preparation
Ensuring product meets customer requirements.
Interaction with senior members of customer team to enhance relations.
Keep Customer well informed

Management Contractors and Sub-Contractors:
Responsible for sub-contractors and drawing up specifications under tender documents
Manage Claims on subcontractors
Monitor and expedite sub-contractors’ work.
Review and accept subcontractors work.

Special features of job:

Work on clients’ sites as required, which may involve working away from home for extended periods, possibly overseas.
Subject to the nature of the project, it may be necessary for entry into radiological areas and, under certain circumstances for individuals to have classified radiation worker status.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Recognised Engineering Certificate such as Degree or Higher.
Chartered Status of Recognised Institute/s.
Experience of mechanical design team management in a highly regulated environment.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Sellafield projects experience beneficial
