The Company:
Our client specialises in the design, manufacture, assembly, test, installation and commissioning of bespoke solutions for the nuclear industry.

The Role:
Responsible to the Engineering Manager for the delivery of Mechanical Design packages for multi-faceted, high value (£1m +) and technically complex solutions to Customer and Industry Specifications, within budget and programme constraints.
Capable of leading a multi discipline engineering team to deliver appropriate solutions from Front End Engineering to Detailed Design production.
Provide Engineering Support to manufacture right through to client handover.

Further responsibilities of the Principal Engineer include:
• Interpretation of Client Requirements to create and implement fit for purpose solutions.
• Definition of appropriate work scope and delivery in accordance with budgeted cost and timescales
• Initial development and on-going update of detailed project programmes
• Day to day management of an engineering team (up to 30 personnel)
• Technical governance and responsibility for all aspects of the Engineering solution
• Ensuring that all aspects of Engineering delivery meets all applicable UK H&S legislation and appropriate design standards
• Adherence to all company policies and procedures
• Definition and management of the delivery of any external specialist engineering services
• Specification of all major bought out plant and equipment
• Presentation, participation and/or chairing of HAZOP and Design Reviews
• Production of key technical documentation including Procurement Specifications, Design Input Requirements, Risk Assessments, Design review close-out etc.
• Ensuring that the Design incorporates all Manufacturing, Testing and Commissioning Requirements
• Incorporating the requirements of the Operating, Maintenance and Recovery features within the design.
• Supporting the production of Tenders and business development proposals
• Management of Design Change Control and Contract variation initiation

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Mechanical Engineering Degree Qualified (or Equivalent)
• Member of IMechE and Chartered Engineer status
• Extensive Engineering Workplace Experience
• Sound Knowledge of and Experience in the Nuclear Industry
• Previous Team Management of Senior Engineers and design teams
• Specialism in at least one or more of the following areas :-
- Nuclear Decommissioning
- Pressure Systems
- Remote Handling Equipment
- Lifting Equipment
- Building Services
- Process Plant
- Heavy Engineering Plant
