The Role:
This role provides comprehensive piping material requisitioning of piping-related items, and material coordination services for multiple projects in the Piping group. The Piping Materials Engineer will coordinate with the Piping Lead, Piping S3D Model Administrator, Material Control, Piping Engineers, Procurement, Schedulers, Expeditors and Project Engineers on a project. The ideal candidate should be experienced in providing material estimates, piping material knowledge, S3D knowledge, technical packages, and schedules for large LNG, Oil and Gas and Petrochemical projects.

Detailed Description

• Responsible for the coordination of piping related Material Requisitions for large petrochemical projects.
• Develops Piping material specifications for new projects
• Based on project schedule, coordinates with Piping Lead, Material Control and other related disciplines to generate piping MR packages for issue to Procurement.
• Perform and check engineering design calculations (wall thickness, vacuum, hydrostatic test pressure, etc.)
• Develop narrative and line class specifications and piping commodity catalog descriptions
• Support Metallurgical Selection Diagram (MSD) and Process & Instrument Diagram (P&ID) development
• Perform specification and procurement of engineered items as well as piping bulk items
• Initiate shop fabrication contract for piping and provide ongoing support of the shop fabrication effort
• Verify vendor data and drawings for Piping and other disciplines in support of detailed design
• Actively participate in, and maximize use of, Knowledge Online Community through Forum Discussions
• Provide guidance to less experienced engineers
• Assist in the development of departmental standards and procedures
• Assist in technical audit
• Generation of MR packages in the JGCA document management system.
• Reviews and monitors changes in the scope of work, material, etc. with the help of Piping Lead.
• Responsible for preparing Piping Fabrication Sub-Contracting packages.
• Coordinates with Bill of Material personnel for inputting to Material Control System.
• Checks inputs to Material Control System.
• Follows practices and procedures as outlined in company quality system, administrative and project execution manuals.
• Helps to generate Technical Bid Tabulations for all piping-related items.
• Coordinates piping MR-related activities with Procurement, Expeditors, Vendors and the Project.
• Familiar with established company procedures, rules and regulations.
• Acts as liaison with other departments, vendors or organizations.
• Evaluates and recommends changes in methods or procedures.
• Plans and schedules piping MR work for maximum effective utilization of personnel within budgetary and quality standards.
• Keeps Department Manager and Project Engineering Manager and appropriate disciplines informed concerning status of project, including changes in scope.
• Plans and schedules through the Department Manager the work of assigned project(s).
• Participates in the Quality Improvement Process, including improving communications for the Department or Project.
• Carries out assignments as directed by Department Manager and Piping Lead.
• Strives to ensure customer satisfaction, both internally and externally.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Prior engineering and/or construction experience required.
• Thorough knowledge of ASME (particularly B31.3 and B16.5) ASTM, API, PIP codes and standards.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen, or hold a valid work visa that does not require sponsorship in order to legally work full-time in the United States

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Familiarity with S3D databases preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of organization.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Able to prioritize
• Bachelor of Science degree required.
• 15 + years of relevant experience.
• LNG experience a plus.
• Experience working for an EPC company
