Responsibilities



Provide production-chemistry expertise, input and assurance to global projects, thus enabling projects at various stages development to fulfill the relevant production-chemistry requirements and deliverables
Work with a wide range of disciplines within the project teams to ensure early identification of key production-chemistry issues and work with these to develop control strategies that are optimized for the entire project
Provide technical assurance in production chemistry for project deliverables as defined by the Discipline Control & Assurance Framework
Be responsible for leading the production chemistry team within the Process & Flow Assurance group to create a sustainable center of expertise for project delivery


Accountabilities

The primary accountability of this position is to work with the project teams to provide Production Chemistry input and support to projects at all stages of development and to provide leadership and mentoring both within the team and beyond in production chemistry issues.
The position may involve being a Technical Authority at the TA1 level,responsible for the sign-off on key decisions with a production chemistry impact to ensure compliance with Shell’s Quality Control and Assurance Framework. Some aspects of the technical authority are safety critical.
A key aspect of the position is the ability to interact with a variety of disciplines. In addition,with the increasing dependence within the portfolio on "difficult hydrocarbons",an increasing emphasis within the team will be on assisting with technology development that will be key enablers in delivering project value; this will include work on subsea separation,Enhanced Oil Recovery and HT/HP,where the production chemistry challenges are recognized to be greater.

As a direct report to the SURF - Subsea Design/Process Engineering Manager
This position is expected to actively participate in team activities, discipline advancement initiatives and sharing of project to project learnings
As a member of an integrated project team
Project values often exceed US $500 million
Typical budgets for individual studies/consultancy services range from US$ 30K to US$ 5 million
Production Chemistry teams on individual projects will typically comprise of 1-4 engineers and will be a mix of contractors and other P&T staff
Active participation in development and implementation of standardized work processes and guidelines as part of the Production Chemistry delivery scope (e.g. DCAF,TAF’s and DEP’s)
This position will typically be integrating emerging technology into a project therefore understanding of the limitations, risks and gaps in the technology must be clearly understood
A special challenge of this position will be to provide leadership to the Production Chemistry team within the group, to provide direction and mentoring to staff and to increase the team’s project coverage

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field
Advanced degree preferred
Preferred Software, Scalechem, Stream Analyzer, Scalesoft Pitzer, Pipesim, Prosper, PVTSim and Multiflash
Minimum 15 years experience in field operations and projects as related to Production Chemistry or related field
A serious and demonstrated commitment to personal and process safety is paramount
Working expertise on a wide range of Production Chemistry subjects gained from operational experience are expected, including materials/corrosion, scale, wax/asphaltenes, hydrate, emulsion, foam, H2S, bio-control, water treatment, waterflood system, etc
Prior supervisory experience is preferred
A track record of leadership of multidisciplinary project teams involving coordination of supporting analysis from other technical professionals
Leadership will also be required to embed increased awareness of production chemistry issues within the project teams, requiring abilit
