The Company:
Our client is a leader within the Automation and Control Systems field with operations in 100 countries worldwide. They specialise in providing integrated solutions the transmission and distribution industry

The Role:
As a Principal Project Manager you will be responsible for engaging with clients at all levels, interpreting their needs into winning proposals and leading a team of engineers to deliver work to the agreed quality, programme and financial margins.

Key duties & responsibilities include:

• Lead multifunctional teams of engineers in the development of estimates and proposals.
• Manage a range of engineers from different disciplines to ensurethe successful delivery of projects.
• Develop the skills of less experienced project managers and engineers.
• Work with finance departments to ensure that jobs are invoiced and debt is paid in a timely manner.
• Manage your own personal development
• Act as an advanced Contract Manager and be accountable for all financial aspects of a contract including WIP, Margin and Debt.
• Monitor the cost performance on contracts and take remedial action where necessary to bring the profitability of the contract back on track.
• Operate as a Bid Team Leader on large contracts and take responsibility to ensure that an attractive proposal is developed that meets the client’s requirements. This must be at acceptable level of profitability and with terms and conditions that provide acceptable risk to the business.
• Interface with clients at all levels to understand their requirements and sell the capabilities of the business to meet those requirements.
• Manage relationships and communication effectively with clients throughout the delivery phase of the contract.
• Manage contracts to deliver or improve on the As Sold GM%
• Shape incomplete information to produce winning proposals.
• Work with Resource Managers to ensure that the correct level of resource is available to deliver contracts to agreed programmes.
• Manage project / contract to ensure the business is not exposed to unacceptable risk.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Engineering Education to degree level
• Minimum of 10 years experience of working in the process industries carrying out a similar role.
• Strong working knowledge of the full project lifecycle.
• Firm understanding of cost Control and Planning techniques.
• Good commercial acumen and working knowledge of typical terms and conditions used in the process industries

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Experience of working overseas
• Graduate Engineer with minimum of ten years experience in a relevant job role
• Member of a relevant Engineering Institution
• UK Driving License
