The Role:
Position reports to: Business Unit Manager or Delegate

Primary objective
To conduct/manage risk & safety assessment projects as required by the company workload.

Main Purpose of Role
Co-ordinate and control the team in an effective and efficient manner to meet client requirements such that the business can be maintained and developed profitably.

Key Result Areas
• Meet client requirements in terms of a quality product to agreed budget and programme..
• Develop and motivate staff within the team so those service delivery requirements are achieved.
• Increase volume of profitable work and hence the number of staff within the team.
• Develop and maintain a good working relationship with the team’s clients thereby ensuring that their needs are clearly understood and met.
• Develop and maintain a good working relationship with all staff and consultants within the Business area, thereby ensuring that the business in their specialist field is adequately resourced and met.
• Develop and maintain a good working relationship with other Team Leaders within the business to ensure that the overall business is adequately resourced and met.
• Be aware of the status of each task being carried out within the team and the risks involved so that any risks can be successfully mitigated.

Problem Solving
• Needs to maintain an overview of the projects, which are currently in hand to assess risk and anticipate any likely problems.
• Much of day-to-day problem solving is around personnel rather than technical issues.
• Required to establish and introduce improved operating procedures and methods of working.
• Must maintain close involvement in technical work undertaken in team to offer guidance and support and ensure technical adequacy of teamwork.

Planning, Organising and Control
• Planning of project work is typically undertaken against and initial estimate based on a relatively poorly defined scope of work from the client.
• More detailed programmes and budgets are developed, as the brief becomes clearer.
• Variations to programme need to be identified, agreed with the client and charged for.
• Resource planning is key with the need to ensure that all members of staff are optimally deployed and their personnel training and development planned.
• Must ensure that any variations/claims are identified, separately monitored, discussed and agreed with the client.

Specific Accountabilities
• Project management, production of project deliverables on time and to budget
• Team leadership
• Preparation of proposals and manhour estimates
• Preparation of documents and software for workshops
• Presenting to clients/potential clients
• Preparation and management of Qualitative, Quantitative Risk Assessments, Safety and Loss Management studies.
• Knowledge of databases and familiarity with appropriate software.
• Risk assessment workshop leadership
• Provide guidance to, and training of junior engineers in the preparation of their work.
• Quality Assurance – Responsible for implementing the EMS V3.
• Safety – Responsible for personal safety safe working practices for the BU, etc. Understand and follow OH&S procedures.
• One Way – demonstrate a commitment to the ONE WAY.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Bsc Hons in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
• Over 15 years experience in the engineering industry
• HAZOP and Risk Assessment Facilitator
• Management and preparation of Onshore and Offshore safety Cases, production of QRAs.
• Leadership skills
