The Company:
Our client is one of the world's largest design consultancies. Their Oil and Gas division is a leading independent supplier of engineering and specialist services to the Energy industry, and they have been providing solutions to the sector since 1975.
They provide services across a wide range of disciplines and applications covering fixed and floating offshore structures, terminals, refineries, petrochemical plants and pipelines.

The Role:
Due to continual growth and increasing workload, an opportunity exists for a temporary Principal Structural Engineer to join our clients Oil and Gas team based in Epsom for 3 months.

Principal Structural Engineers within this area are responsible for leading the structural aspects of multi-discipline/single-discipline design and assessment work for all types of offshore assets including fixed platforms and floating systems.

Your responsibilities will include:
Leading and supervising structural engineering design and consultancy work for all types of offshore assets including fixed platforms, floating and subsea systems.
Maintaining and developing client relationships.
Ensuring the provision of efficient high quality structural engineering.
Meeting cost and time targets to assist process in delivering high quality design and consultancy services to oil and gas industry clients.
Preparation of pre-qualification responses, proposals and tenders.
Preparation of business and marketing plans.
Management and development of a small team of engineers and CAD-technicians.
Cost tracking and responsibility for cost-management.

Additional Information.
Travel to other company sites may be necessary.
Offshore survey visits may be required infrequently, and therefore medical fitness for offshore work is preferred.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Suitable candidates will possess the following qualifications and experience:
A good engineering degree (honours or equivalent) in civil or structural engineering or similar.
Chartered Engineer Substantial single-discipline structural engineering experience including offshore.
Experience in leading or participating in multi-discipline engineering – preferably including offshore.
Experience in the application and management of computer-based engineering tools and systems – preferably including SACS, ASAS, and USFOS (other packages will be considered).
Understanding of the offshore environment – particularly wave loading, fatigue and vessel motions.
Good report writing skills.
Project management experience.
Excellent presentation skills and the ability to interface with clients.
Ability to cope rapidly with challenging problems.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
In addition, it would be desirable to have:
Experience in advanced finite element analysis (both linear and non-linear) in a structural engineering discipline

You will also possess the following personal skills/qualities:
A co-operative and helpful attitude to colleagues and clients
Self-motivating, reliable, consistent and mature approach to work
Able to work independently and in teams
Acceptance of responsibility for work carried out
Flexible approach to work
