The Role:
Process Safety and Risk Engineer (Process Safety Engineer) The Process Safety Engineer is a member of the GPO Alaska Engineering Team, which is responsible to ensure the technical content is in alignment with business objectives for each project. This includes reviewing technical work done by the contractor(s) and providing technical guidance and assurance for Projects. In addition, provides an active role in the management of major accident hazards and risks.

Key accountabilities:

* Provide process safety engineering technical guidance and assurance in support of Alaska Operations, Wells, and Projects organizations
* Facilitate project risk assessments for projects and modifications generated by the Project Management Team (PMT) in support of the Management of Change (MOC) process.
* Review and advice on process safety engineering deliverables from the Engineering Contractor
* Work with the Contractor during specification, tender, selection, purchase, installation & commissioning of process equipment to provide technical integrity assurance
* Provide support during construction to ensure all process safety aspects of site technical queries, non-conformances, concession requests are properly considered, including siting of temporary buildings.
* Evaluate requests for deviations or exemptions to the established specifications and standards
* Determine risks to delivery and ensure adequate risk mitigation plans are in place
* Ensure engineering quality in the discipline and advice on any training requirements
* Provide technical input to risk assessments, Management of Change reviews, and project reviews
* Maintain a working knowledge of all relevant codes, standards, and regulations that pertain to process safety engineering
* Provide mentoring and coaching assistance to develop junior engineers
* Provide risk assessment support through risk reviews, including HAZOP studies, Layers of Protection Analysis and other risk analysis techniques
Essential experience and job requirements:
* Experience and working knowledge of HYSYS and other simulation software, including development of the heat and material balance of a system
* Experience and working knowledge of process safety risk assessment tools, including Major Accident Risk (MAR), PHAST, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), HAZOP & LOPA
* Experience in a front line process safety engineering role in projects and/or operations in oil & gas petrochemical facilities
* Knowledge of safety system design, quantitative risk analysis, LOPA calculations.
