The Role:
Process Safety Technology Leader roles are responsible for the selection and application of technology, management systems, and hazard assessment tools that will enable the protection of people, property, and the environment by controlling the risks of unplanned events such as fires, explosions, reactive chemical incidents and chemical releases. These Process Safety roles have a corporate stewardship responsibility to assure that process safety technology, management systems and hazard assessment tools are appropriately applied.

Duties include
• Work as an integral part of the Technology and understand the technologies intimately.
• Develop and implement global strategies for defining and implementing Process Safety Most Effective Technology (MET).
• Partner with the Technology and the EH&S Leader to develop and implement strategies for meeting the corporate EH&S long-term strategy for reduction in Process Safety incidents. This will typically involve leading an implementation team or project within the business.
• Partner with the Technology to define Process Safety templates that can be leveraged for such things as F&EI, CEI, Reactive Chemicals Worst Case Scenarios, Layers of Protection Analysis and HAZOP studies.
• Partner with the Technology to Review Process Safety incidents across the technology and develop recommendations to eliminate repeat incidents and improve performance; ensure root causes are indeed identified.
• Interpret LPPs and other Process Safety requirements across the technology.
• Participate in Project Reviews with the Technology and develop recommendations for addressing process safety issues.

Responsibilities include:
• Facilitate/Conduct risk reviews such as RC/PHAs and New Production Leader RC Reviews. Participate in Project Reviews and ensure they are completed on time. Develop recommendations for addressing Process Safety deficiencies identified in these reviews. Document reviews in Process Safety database.
• Provide risk assessment support through F&EI and CEI calculations and reviews; facilitate HAZOP studies, Layers of Protection Analysis and other risk analysis techniques and tools.
• Participate in EH&S Audits as an Auditor or Lead Auditor as defined in the EH&S Audit work process.
• Ensure each site has an effective Reactive Chemicals program; for large sites, co-chair the site Reactive Chemicals committee.
• Provide Process Safety expertise for Management of Change.
• Provide Process Safety training for technical personnel.
• Provide Process Safety support for our totally owned Insurance Subsidiaries.
• Participate in Process Safety incident root cause investigations and leverage the learning from these incidents across site
• Work with each site Responsible Care Leader and Delivery organization to ensure EH&S work processes are being effectively utilized from a Process Safety perspective.
• Provide general consulting on Process Safety issues.
• Provide local advocacy, community outreach, and regulation interpretation. (May involve multi countries/sites).
• Integrate new acquisitions and joint ventures into the EH&S systems.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering is required and Chemical Engineering is preferred.
• Extensive Manufacturing, Tech Centre, or Engineering experience preferred.
• General knowledge of EH&S and in-depth knowledge of Process Safety discipline.
• Ability to speak local languages used at assigned plants is very helpful.
