The Role:
We are currently looking for a high calibre Process Technologist, with extensive experience in basalt fibre or glass fibre production techniques to assist with establishing a pilot scale basalt fibre production plant. Reporting to the Senior Process Engineer, he will be involved with the installation, commissioning and operation of the pilot plant, with the overall objective of validating the product for commercial scale production. He shall have broad theoretical knowledge of the materials used to produce inorganic fibres along with their production techniques together with extensive practical hands on experience developed during his career within the industry.

Responsibilities
1- Assist with the successful installation, commissioning and operation of the pilot fibre manufacturing plant to ensure consistent operation
2- Work within a multi skilled team to ensure key fundamental questions are addressed and project plans are in place and executed with high quality, on time and budget.
3- To assist with developing a working culture within the basalt fibre production section that is committed to the achievement of world class research and development of processing technologies
4- Take a lead in the successful operation of the pilot plant including raw material preparation, melting, forming, sizing, winding and drying.
5- Must be capable of working shifts to ensure the pilot plant can operate on 24hr basis during production campaigns.
6- Must be capable of leading a shift and be willing to delegate for superiors when required
7- Prepare procedures and work instruction relevant to the basalt fibre production according to the internal management system of the centre
8- Promote high standards of safety and environmental awareness
9- Be involved with the raw material testing and characterisation to assess its suitability for fibre production as well as determining the processing conditions
10- Provide input to the characterisation program for basalt fibre property analysis
11- Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, consultants, technology providers and universities as required
12- Contribute to the internal quality, safety and physical condition audits of the centre
13- Prepare technical reports and internal documentation about the basalt fibre technologies as required
14- Support the training of all concerned employees on the theoretical and practical aspects of the fibre manufacturing process

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Minimum 10 years of experience in the inorganic fibre manufacturing industry and R&D activities. Graduate with MSc or PhD in Material science, Engineering, Chemistry or related discipline. Have extensive knowledge about:

- Inorganic fibre manufacturing process including melting, forming and sizing together with extensive knowledge of the process condition setting, optimisation and trouble shooting for process development.
- Basalt and glass fibre businesses, end uses, applications, costing and economics.
- Engineering aspects involved in the construction of production plants for basalt fibre or glass fibre, this shall have been gained through proven experience of starting new production facilities
- Structured and scientific approach to R&D projects and product development (gated stages).
- The ability to build an effective network of contacts with technology providers, consultants, researchers, training centres and equipment vendors.
- Demonstrated use of science and engin
