Is a leading Automotive manufacturer with a reputation for outstanding quality the world over. With demand increasing and an upturn in production, there is a need to bring further skills into the business to deliver on current and future projects.

The Role:
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To procure prototype and other engineering parts to support projects, development and test parts.

POSITION IN ORGANISATION

• Reports to a Functional Manager who reports to a Head of Department.
• Has cross-project responsibility and may be expected to provide procurement services to all areas of the business.
• Normally has no subordinates but can be required to direct technical colleagues and other engineers with respect to the selection of prototype suppliers / materials.
• Collaborates closely with engineers, particularly feature owners whose parts are being procured. Is expected to contribute actively to cross-functional forums such as parts clubs etc. and report back on progress against delivery plans.
• Liaises with levels in the business, up to Functional Manager, particularly within Product engineering, Logistics and purchasing, and with Suppliers.

SCOPE OF JOB

• Accountable for defining and planning own work for approval by the Technical Manager. This includes keeping up-to-date records of all procurement activities.
• Responsible for obtaining competitive quotations from suppliers to ensure optimal value against a supplied bid specification or equivalent data.
• Responsible for raising purchase orders / reservations as necessary to meet project timing expectations and reporting any delays to the relevant customers
• Responsible for ensuring that parts are ordered to support testing, based on a bill of materials supplied by the relevant product engineer

DIMENSIONS and LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

• Operates within an agreed budget.
• Recommends authorisation of external spend within budget.
• Accountable for identifying any issue or risk affecting feature/system delivery, for recommending remedial action where appropriate, for ensuring this is visible and understood by the Technical and that appropriate action is taken.
• Makes recommendations on material selection based on previous experience.
• Owns and controls tracking documents for visibility of procurement status.
• Ensure that PORs progress through the approvals process to full purchase orders.
• Approves invoices against purchase orders raised.


EXPERIENCE

• Experience using purchasing systems would be helpful.


DUTIES and KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Developing and maintaining technical knowledge/capability.
- Self-education through liaison with feature owners and suppliers
- Responsible for defining and planning own work for approval by Technical Manager.

Create and populate tracking documents to provide visibility of parts procurement status.
- In conjunction with the relevant feature owner, select appropriate suppliers and materials to meet project timing requirements.
- Liaise with test engineers to ensure timely procurement of test parts to enable completion of test plans.

Responsible for procurement of prototype / development parts.
- In conjunction with the relevant feature owner, select appropriate suppliers and materials to meet technical specifications.
- Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers to ensure quotations are provided and parts are delivered as required.
- Raise appropriate paperwork according to the relevant processes to procure prototype / development parts.
- Processing of invoices to ensure supplier payment as per Company policy.
- Quotations for any additional activities (such as painting, modification etc.) are included.

Responsible for ensuring that the appropriate quantity and level of prototype / development parts are ordered and meet project / engineering deliverables.
- Ensure that the appropriate data are supplied by the feature owner to enable parts to be ordered.
- Liaise with test engineers and logistics teams to ensure that the correct quantity of prototype test parts is ordered.
- Maintain communications with feature owners to ensure that the appropriate level of data is used to source parts.
