The Role:
Position Description: Programme Manager, Nuclear
Reports to: Managing Director, Europe (MD)
Support to: Business Development Director (BDD)
Summary and overview:
The Programme Manager, Nuclear (PGM) is responsible for the proposal and project management of assigned projects. The PGM will be a key player in our clients company and is expected to contribute in all areas of the business.
The key areas of responsibility will be: -
To lead the company’s Seascale based engineering team.
Provide support the company’s business development activities, both on their own initiative and supporting the BDD.
To manage preparation and submission of proposals and to support the MD and BDD in subsequent negotiation of contract opportunities.
On award of a contract, the principal role will be to manage the execution of the projects (financial, technical and schedule). Initially, the PGM will also be the Project Manager (PM) on key projects.
As the “PM,” they are the general manager/owner of the project. In most cases, the PM will have a strong engineering team leader who will manage the technical aspects of the project. This person will usually come from our clients Systems Inc (the parent company) Systems Engineering group or from within the Seascale engineering team.
The PM will use whatever resources necessary to successfully conclude the project.
The Programme Manager will typically have multiple projects under way in both the execution phase and soliciting and negotiating phase at the same time.
It is our intention to have the PGM focus on projects within the nuclear sector with a particular emphasis on “remote handling” solutions. Within the company, these typically revolve around powered manipulator systems and integrated crane and manipulator systems. The appointed PGM will be expected to have expertise in this area but will be given detailed product training at PaR’s headquarters in the USA.
The PGM will then help to guide the companies product strategy in that area and will be expected to regularly articulate this strategy in planning meetings as well as in day to day business as appropriate to guide our client go/no-go proposal evaluations and business win strategies.
They will also be expected to contribute to the annual product R&D planning review. In this process, the PGM will forward their best product development plans to the MD and the parent company Environmental Business Segment Leader to help formulate a coherent group product strategy for this part of the business.
From time to time, the PGM may be called on to lead proposal efforts and execute projects, in different product/markets areas as needed.
In the short to medium term, the PGM will also be required to lead the company QA function and contribute strongly to Health, Safety and Security (HSS) management. Further, they will be the focal point for facilities management, supported by the Senior Engineers.
However, the intent is for this individual to cultivate project opportunities in the EU with a primary focus on the UK.
This will be with the support of the MD and BDD plus the management team at the clients Systems Inc.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive profitable growth.
Identify, develop and execute new product, service, market or customer expansion plans for the nuclear sector.
Clearly communicate business strategies and tactics to upper management and the entire organisation.
Obtain R&D funding for the multi-generational product plans that this PGM will develop if needed.
Lead development of, and achieve, financial targets for assigned projects and product lines.
Identify, evaluate and assist in the execution of merger & acquisition and joint venture opportunities.
Clearly communicate how these plans fit with overall strategy for the clients Systems Limited.
Participate in or lead business/organisation integration activities as a result of completed acquisitions.
Be the Project Manager for assigned projects where they run the projects from beginning to end to ensure their success. Success is defined by: -
Total customer satisfaction.
Safe completion of all works.
Meeting or exceeding financial targets (project P&L management).
Meeting or exceeding programme timescale targets.
Conduct consistent with the clients Corporate Values.
Support the development of other PGMs or PMs in the organisation by overseeing less experienced persons in the organisation.
Provide expert oversight on proposal execution, including reviewing schedule, pricing and cost estimates. Assist the MD and BDD in working with wider company team to finalise proposal price, terms, and overall commitments to the customer.
When appropriate, be the lead negotiator for the terms, conditions and pricing of the project with the customer along with the MD and BDD.
Ensure the effective use of the proposal budget.
Assist in executive sales efforts as determined in conjunction the BDD and as outlined in sales strategies developed by the team.
Provide applications engineering support to the BDD either personally or with the assistance of engineering.
Region of responsibility: EU with a focus on the UK.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree, preferably in a technical field.
More than five years in a sales or business development role for technical/industrial products, or equivalent.
More than three years in a project management role.
Significant team leadership experience ideally in a project setting.
Able to travel up to 30% of the time.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science.
Masters in Business Administration.
10 or more years experience in sales, engineering or project/Programme management experience in robotics, machine tools or other electro-mechanical businesses.
P&L experience with demonstrated results.
Has earned or currently holds a Professional Project Management certification
Technical familiarity with electromechanical systems and related control software.
Strong ability to grow professionally as the revenue and the company grows
