The Company:
Our client, a major owner/operating company, seeks expertise for offshore mega-projects in Canada.

This opportunity is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only. First consideration will be given to residents of Newfoundland & Labrador.

Please note: There are 3 positions available - 1 in St John's, 1 in Marystown and 1 at site in Newfoundland.

The Role:
The Project Accountant is a key member of the Project Controller’s team reporting to the Senior Project Accountant. The Project Accountant role is to work with the Senior Project Accountant to implement and execute an effective and timely contract assessment program and exception stewardship process as appropriate to the key project contracts.

The Project Accountant ensures the adequacy of financial controls and procedures followed by the Prime Contractor. The Project Accountant performs necessary audit/attest procedures to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the agreement.

Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Administer sound control systems and procedures at the contractor’s office.
• Promote sound control policies and practices within the project and with contractors.
• Developing and maintaining individual Invoice Control Reports by type of charges for each project under the agreement.
• Developing and maintaining report on retention/holdback accounts.
• Performing Lien checks, when and if appropriate to the contract.
• Performing necessary verification and attest reviews of Contractor’s invoices, including compliance with terms and rates of agreement and adequacy of supporting documentation.
• Providing interface on invoice exceptions with Contractor’s home and field offices.
• Maintaining project invoice verification and attest savings log for reporting to Project Management Team (PMT).
• Performing appropriate audit procedure of Contractor’s home and field payroll records to confirm accuracy of time charges, hourly rates, and appropriateness of other charges.
• Reviewing all subcontracts and developing necessary Site control review procedures to ensure compliance with agreement (as required).
• Reviewing Supervised Contractor and Subcontractor invoices for compliance with agreement.
• Reviewing material invoices and receiving reports for compliance with Supplier Purchase Order terms and conditions.
• Maintaining inventory of items purchased for Contractor’s field office
• Reviewing all contractor project bank account activity reports as appropriate.
• Initially requires travel to field work sites.

Skill area proficiencies:

• Understands and is proficient in the application of controllers management systems.
• Competent proficiency in most project contracting areas (EPC, EPCM, Reimbursable, Lump sum etc.)
• Basic to Competent proficiency in project accounting tools.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• 2- 3 years experience in a variety of controllers positions (see Skill Areas).
• Proficiency in SAP is preferred.
• Degree of Diploma in Business/Accounting is preferred.
• Professional Accounting Designation is preferred.
