The Role:
The Projects BDU is responsible for the development and execution of oil and gas related projects associated with our clients interests in the North Sea. These projects will include greenfield and brownfield projects, or a combination of the two. Significant upgrade projects involving debottlenecking, equipment replacement and production will also form part of the Projects BDU responsibility.

In addition, material input is provided by the Projects BDU in terms of knowledge, expertise and recommendation, to support progress towards concept selection.

The Projects BDU organisation is structured in a matrix team organisation, comprising support disciplines, which will assist the various project managers to achieve project technical, cost, planning and quality objectives.

The position reports to the Project Services Manager (Line Manager) and to the Non Operated Project Manager (Functional Manager). The role has no direct reports.


Key Accountabilities

• The role requires an understanding of project delivery but also an ability to interact and communicate with partners as the main focus of the role will be a hands off oversight of the non-operated projects.
• Demonstrate visible leadership and commitment to excellent HSSE performance in support of the Project Managers’ accountabilities.
• Prepare contract documentation and provide advice on contract administration.
• Review or develop, and submit for approval, cost estimates, resource and planning schedules for the project(s) at key project stages from screening to close-out.
• Support cost and schedule quantitative risk analyses, using probabilistic techniques and use this to support the estimation and management of contingencies.
• Lead, or participate in as appropriate, the development of a project risk register to provide for identification, mitigation and monitoring of project risks.
• Review and maintain project cost, planning and document control strategies, plans and procedures; provide input to the project strategy and associated execution plans, ICT strategy and other project documentation.
• Review and verify project controls elements of bid specifications and review tender submissions prior to contract award.
• Validate Potential Change and Variation Order Proposal Register; account for Potential Changes in cost and schedule forecasts.
• Maintain timely awareness on project cost and planning performance against budget and schedule; analyse potential changes; recommend corrective actions.
• Agree project arrangements for managing AFEs with Partners Contracts Manager and Project Accountant, and implement accordingly.
• Review contractors’ cost and schedule reports and recommend corrective action where necessary.
• Review regular and timely progress reports, rolling up contractors’ cost reports and schedules into an overall integrated cost report and overall project schedule, detailing progress against plans and budgets, for circulation to project and asset management, project partners and stakeholders.
• Populate and update ProSpace data for the project monthly report, and submit other progress information as requested for management and shareholder reviews.
• Monitor and review the project controls element of contractor performance throughout the contract life-cycle; recommend corrective action where necessary.
• Contribute to peer assists, peer reviews and functional reviews.
• Act as the project controls expert in discussions with regional management teams, partners, authorities and other stakeholders outside the asset team.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
You will be educated to first degree level in a relevant subject and a chartered member of a relevant discipline (preferred).

As a technical professional with experience in the oil and gas or petro-chemical industry you will have knowledge of all phases of major oil and gas projects eg: FEED, EPC, Commissioning, Start-up etc. and experience of the project sanction process.

You will also have hands-on experience of using proprietary Project Controls tools and experience of working on projects with joint venture partners as well as experience of both brownfield and greenfield developments.

With excellent communications skills, both written and oral, with the ability to challenge others in a constructive manner and negotiate with internal peers and partner representatives to influence plans. You will also be a good team player with a pro-active and flexible attitude, and able to work in a multi-cultural environment.
