The Company:
Our client is a nuclear specialist, covering both civilian and defence sectors, across the complete lifecycle from New Build, through Operations and Maintenance, to final decommissioning and waste disposal.

The Role:
Part 1: Job Profile

1. Main purpose of job
To assist the Project Manager in delivering projects within cost, time and performance constraints.

2. Position in organisation and key relationships
Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Project Engineer has working relationships with all levels of people within the project organisation.

The Project Engineer is responsible for allocating work to and checking work completed by engineers. The project engineer must also collaborate closely with others at all levels.

Externally the Project Engineer is responsible for liaison with sub-contractors and clients.



3. Scope of job
• Safety: Ensuring projects are carried out according to safety policy and procedures
• Quality: Ensuring projects, including internal and contractor/external works, meet design specifications and are carried out according to quality management procedures
• Programme: Project activity monitoring and control
• Costs: Project cost monitoring and control
• Notification of Changes/Variations: Management of technical and commercial risks associated with projects
• Resources: Liaising and coordinating across project disciplines
• Reporting: Production of technical, management and project progress reports
• Security Arrangements: Ensuring project meets client security requirements.


4. Dimensions and limits of authority
Delegated financial authority on a project basis.


5. Personal Profile - Qualifications

Essential: HNC/HND qualified in an engineering or related subject. Professional recognition by a PM or engineering institution.

Desirable: Degree qualified in an engineering or related subject. APM introductory certificate (or equivalent)

6. Personal Profile - Experience
5 years’ experience in a technical role in a project delivery environment

7. Personal Profile – Capability/Competency levels required

Essential : Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing, good team working skills, leadership and people management , ability to motivate and influence, ability to work under time pressure


Part 2: Duties and key responsibilities


Safety
• Assisting the Project Manager in ensuring that all project activities meets the requirements of the CDM Regulations and Statutory requirements. (Building Regs, EMC Regs, CE Marking, PUWER, LOLER, Risk Management)
• Assisting the Project Manager in ensuring that all project activities meets with the specified Customer safety requirements
• Assisting the Project Manager in ensuring radiological safety of the project.

Quality
• Assisting the Project Manager in ensuring that all project activities are carried out in accordance with company QA requirements, particularly procedure CP0501, Project Management. Due regard shall also be taken of any Project Specific Guidance Notes.
• Assisting the Project Manager in ensuring that all project activities meets with the Customer quality requirements.
• Assisting the Project Manager and working with the Project Document Controller in ensuring that all work undertaken at Nuvia Limited offices is done so within the secure network and project document control procedure.

Programme
• Assisting the Project Manager in ensuring that the project is delivered to the timescale agreed with the Customer.
• Assisting the Project Manager in the monitoring of progress of deliverables undertaken by sub contracted resource(s) and advising the Nominated Engineer of project direction.

Costs
• Assisting the Project Manager in ensuring that the project is carried out within the agreed budgets
• Assisting with the monitoring of expenditure of sub contracted resource(s) and progressing delivery, via the Nominated Engineer, in accordance with control budgets.
Notification of Changes / Variations
• Notifying the Customer through the Project Manager at the earliest opportunity of any changes that may affect the delivery of the project with respect to Safety, Quality, Programme or Cost in accordance with Change Control Procedure CP0507.
• Assisting the Project Manager in the timely generation and update of a Project Risk Register.

Resources
• Informing the Project Manager of forward resource requirements for project activities
• Arranging an appropriate level of support from Projects and Engineering Group to monitor the project costs and programme
• Assisting the Project Manager to ensure that only SQEP (Suitably Qualified Experienced Persons) are employed on the project.

Reporting
• Assisting with the preparation of the Monthly Project Reports.

Security Arrangements
Assisting the Project Manager with the implementation of the special security arrangements in place on the project.

Special features of job


The job requires understanding and application of safety legislation and Nuvia safety procedures; IOSH Managing Safely qualification is a requirement
There may be a requirement to visit and work in hazardous environments including radiation controlled areas
The jobholder will be required to use the appropriate PPE/RPE for the environment
Frequent travel to Clients, construction sites and suppliers is required, with some longer term assignments to locations away from the home office possible.
