The Role:
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Project Engineer (Mechanical and Process) provides support to Projects during the Appraise, Select, Define and Execute phases. He is responsible for delivering the Appraise / Select activities on allocated Projects ( according to BP standards and is responsible for supporting the Project Manager in the delivery of the Define (FED) and Execute and Operate Engineering activities. The successful applicant will be part of the Projects and Modifications Team (P&MT). This is an opportunity to support the development and implementation of a world-class operation.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Project Delivery

• Ensure all BP Project process expectations for FEL are met
• Define and implement the principles of GHSSER within Project delivery

Appraise

• Work closely with Operations and other functions to help identify and develop potential Projects
• Provide leadership to the Appraisal of allocated Projects
• Ensure the development of robust business cases

Select

• Develop options through preliminary engineering outlining technical/constructability/risk management/cost/operational flexibility advantages and disadvantages.
• Engage with all stakeholder groups for alignment on Project planning and the selected solution
• Provide technical interface management between the Contractor(s) and consultant(s) to ensure the quality and correctness of data.
• Coordinate “Select” review meetings with stakeholders (Typically; HSSE, Operation, DET, AEST, IM) to finalize a recommendation.
• Create the Statement of Requirements (SOR) and have this approved by relevant stakeholders and frozen
• Assemble the DSP Select Package and interim AFE for Define costs
• Ensure a smooth handover from the Select to Define stage

Define

• Develop the Front End Design (FED) engineering according to governing ETPs/STPs
• Ensure inherently safety design concepts and impacts on the existing asset have been considered and incorporated into the design
• Develop the FED Package / Basis of Design (BoD) with the allocated Project Manager.
• Coordinate design reviews and risk assessments. Ensure that compliance to BP OMS and high focus on HSE are maintained.
• Use existing value-improving practices and proactively drive the Project to a design freeze at the end of Define through a signed-off FED Package / BoD.
• Apply the MoC Process
• Support the Project Manager in preparing the final DSP Define and AFE for Execute

Execute

• Provide challenge to any proposed changes post-design freeze. Capture relevant changes through the MoC process.
• Issue engineering work packages and materials, as required, in a timely manner to support the fabrication and construction schedule.
• Support risk reviews to identify risks and work with action owners to close out risk mitigation plans.
• Support construction and commissioning activities as needed.
• Assist the Project Manager in assembling handover package and ensure proper Project close-out.
• Capture Project lessons learned as required via After Action Review / Lessons Learned Session and apply continuous improvement process to future Projects.

Other

• Proactive participation in the delivery of proper HSE behaviour in everyday activities and delivery of HSE inputs as required.
• Deliver personal HSE targets
• Maintaining confidentiality of data and adherence to BP Code of Conduct is required at all times

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• University degrees (Bachelors) in a relevant field (e.g. Chemical, Mechanical Engineering)

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• At least 5 years relevant experience in Brownfield Projects and Modifications
• Previous experience working in the oil and gas operating facilities
• Previous experience working in Project Design
• Knowledge of Projects processes
• Knowledge of Economic evaluation and FEL
• Knowledge of Project design practices
• Knowledge of HSSE processes for design of projects
• Previous experience working in situations requiring self-motivation, ability to set goals and objectives, work unsupervised and meet deadlines.
