The Company:
Our Client is a world leading Automotive OEM which is responsible for some of the most iconic 4x4's & Sports Cars produced. Due to the huge demand for current models and substantial investment in future projects there is a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering & manufacturing on a contract basis.

The Role:
The Product Efficiency Group is a new team of Subject Matter Experts covering Vehicle Coastdown, Benchmarking, Test and Integration Engineers focused on identifying new technology hopper actions and supporting Vehicle CO2 and Fuel Economy attribute delivery activities. A significant contributor to Product Efficiency lies with the PiVA team (Powertrain in Vehicle Analysis) who currently provide the analytical input and detail component contributions. As a business has refocused the product priorities with CO2 and Fuel Economy being a significant driver for technology and cost in the forthcoming programmes. Product Efficiency team involvement with this activity is key to future delivery improvements, through incremental actions delivered through the Technology Hopper process. The result is this group is influential and high profile within the Company. Providing support to the PED PAT leaders on programme FE/CO2 delivery in the form of guidance and data analysis to aid the process of identifying issue root cause, potential solutions and identifying further programme opportunities. Lead the continuous process improvement activities for FE/CO2 delivery by guiding the writing/updating requirements and DVMs, developing new physical/CAE validation techniques at a system and sub-system level and improving the robustness of the target cascade. Champion the adherence to agreed processes and methodologies within the PED team and provide coaching/tuition where necessary. Lead the ongoing development of the in-house FE-CAT data analysis tool by identifying and specifying improved features and capabilities.

Support the development of the Company fleet FE&CO2 forecast database ensuring the highest level of data quality is maintained. Support the Company FE/CO2 strategy development by interfacing with the key technology strategy owners within the CoCs, APC, Research, PT and Product Strategy, championing continuous improvement in component and system efficiency and ensuring the impact of technology and design decision on FE/CO2 is fully understood. Keep abreast with technical developments within the wider industry by instigating or supporting benchmarking exercises, attending conferences, reading technical papers, etc where appropriate.

The Product Efficiency Group is part of a key attribute department within Company (PED). The team resides within Powertrain but the activities cover all of the CoC's within CompanyEngineering and interfaces with other attributes in Vehicle Engineering. The PED Attribute team is one of the key Vehicle Attribute teams within Company covering Performance, Economy and Performance Feel & Driveability attributes. The main purpose of the PED team is to establish the high level attribute targets, generate a robust target cascade and then manage and validate the delivery of these targets.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Experience/understanding of vehicle fuel economy/CO2 development, vehicle testing, FE/CO2 technologies and related data analysis
Experience/understanding of coastdown techniques, testing, measurement and related data analysis
Experience/understanding of diesel/petrol base engine P&E development and/or engine calibration
Experience/understanding of Transmission and Driveline hardware and calibration
Experience in data processing, manipulation and graphical presentation using Matlab, Excel, etc or an interest and willingness to develop these skills further
Experience and interest in continuous process improvement, a good understanding of product development systems and some experience in writing requirements, procedures and DVMs
An interest and awareness of Company competitive environment, particularly in relation to the PED Attributes Experience in presenting data and information clearly in large forums
Applicants need to be qualified to degree level; BSc or MSc

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
An awareness of Product Creation Systems and Verification Tracking Systems (eFDVS and/or RMDV)
Experience with hybrid vehicles testing, attribute development, calibration, etc
An understanding of 6-sigma data analysis tools and experience in applying them in the analysis of test data would be of benefit
An understanding or appreciation of CAE tools in particular related to FE/CO2 or emissions prediction would be of benefit.
