Our Client is a world leading Automotive OEM which is responsible for some of the most iconic 4x4's & Sports Cars produced. Due to the huge demand for current models and substantial investment in future projects there is a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering & manufacturing on a contract basis.
This position is for a Project Engineer in the Tyre Modelling & CAE Team, to be responsible for vehicle based objective tyre testing. The Project Engineer will have the technical lead for the acquisition of data and the creation of tyre models from this data for use around the company's full vehicle multi body simulation community. The role entails both office based tyre modelling and vehicle dynamics CAE / analysis, as well as overseas travel to carry out objective tyre data collection testing.
3 KEY SKILLS: Experience of test driving vehicles and measured data acquisition. Objective data analysis / interpretation, and general data management. Matlab - good ability level required, and/or affinity to learn and improve skills. Knowledge of Tyre modelling principles, tyre models and their limitations. Familiarity with Tyre models / tools (Magic Formula, MF-Tools, OptimumTire, Cosin FTire, CDTire, etc.) Experience of developing vehicle models and CAE methods / tools, in particular IPG Carmaker and Simpack. Recording and reporting findings, in written or verbal format. Willingness to travel (including international) Demonstrating a robust scientific approach and knowledge of design of experiments. Good MS-Office skills
Experience Required: Relevant Mechanical Engineering Degree with emphasis on Automotive Engineering and in particular Vehicle Dynamics and Tyres. Two to four years experience of working in a relevant role, test driving vehicles, analysing and processing the acquired measurement data, and using this in a vehicle dynamics role. Experience with tyre models, and good knowledge of tyre modelling (in particular Magic Formula, ideally also FTire)
Experience Preferred: MSc in motorsport or automotive engineering. Vehicle Dynamics training. Experience of tyre testing and development of repeatable and reproducible tyre test procedures, and correlation of data with models and simulations. CAE training (e.g. Matlab Simulink, Simpack, IPG CarMaker) Knowledge of 6-Sigma tools and techniques (particularly process development and statistical methods) Self-motivated and independent working with proven project and time management skills. Good at team work and able to manage people
