The Company:

Services include scientific and specialty consulting as well as all aspects of engineering and construction, and operations and maintenance.

The Role:
To organize, lead, coordinate and direct a multi-discipline ndeisgn engineering team (including technical, safety case and supply chain as applicable) that delivers engineering design work packages (specficiation, analysis, verification or assessment of engineering)

Resource forecasting, demand, assingment and deployment:
- Generating periodic forecasts of design resource needs for direct team and portfolio up to decision point (gate for project work and performance plan for other)
- Establishing design delivery strategies fo the assigned portfolio
- Deploying design resources in line with resource strategy to maintain knowledge and understanding of work delivered

People pergormance, development and competence:
- Line manager duties for supervision and performance of direct reports and team members (control of work tasks/assingments - supervised, able, trained and competent to do assigned tasks)
- providing input to annual performance reviews of discipline portfolio-assigned staff
- promoting best practice and sharing of portfolo specific LFE across the engineering business and sharing of external LFE with portfolio team
- Managing team and portfolio workload such that time is available to attend communication, training and development sessions

Work assignment and delivery:
- input to and review of work packaging, tender selection, tendor submissions for procurement of design services and equipment
- Assigns approval of technical content of documents to competent persons or groups
- Managing the interactions of design work, documents and solutions to align both within the portfolio and with interfaces and dependant work, documents, solutions and existing plant and equipment under the control of others
- Specifying, supervising and reviewing work performed by alliance or contracted work involving design services

Quality of work and output:
- Organises, leads, directs and itegrates the development of fit for purpose, timely and affordable design solutions that deliver the functional specification, safely and legally
- Managing the generation of ddesign deliverables that define and preserve the design intent and are organised and align with the plant configuration
- Identifying appropriate design and engineering standards and practices to be used for the delivery of portfolio
- Specifying the level of verification and validation necessary to underpin design solutions that meet the safety, engineering and operational needs (including reviews)
- Identification and management of engineering, technical and safety case risks that affect delivery of the portfolio and the longer term performance of the engineering in service through to end of life

Cost and Schedule:
- Leading the development of the engineering elements of the project/task baseline scope, schedule and budget
- Establishing and maintaining control of the engineering baseling (scope, schedule and budget) via appropriate change control process
- Monitoring, reviewing and reporting on engineering status (including technical and safety case), progress against schedules and implementing corrective and recovery actions

To head of Projects for:
- Ensuring work portfolio is delivered ad controlled efficiently and effectively to meet agreed specification, cost and schedule
- ensuring design solutions are fit for purpose, integrated, affordable and deliver the business case, functional specification and execution plan
- ensuring all technical, safety and engienering risks identified, owned and managed
- ensuring status and performance of work is accurately and timely reported

To head of design for:
- ensuring appropriate and adequate design standards and practices are deployed and deliverables and solutions generated are safe, legal and adequately underpinned
- ensuring competenct people are deployed and periodic forecasting of resources are accurate and timely
- ensuring design resource strategy is implemented within portfolio
- ensuring design key roles and filled with SQEPped and competent people and the duties of CDM coordinator adequately discharged
- ensuring subject matter experts are approximately and adequately engaged in a timely manner and LFE captured, disseminated and utilised

To Directoarte Head of Engineering for:
- ensuring solutions meet agreed performance demands and documents define and preserve the design intenct and are organised and align with the plant configuration
- ensuring all necessary documentation is genrated to meet safety and legal requirements that enable receipt on nuclear licensed site, installation, commissionning anf taking into service of plant and equipment

- To work within financial delegations
- to assign approval of technical contenct of design deliverables to competent persons or groups
- Selection and appointment of direct reports and project/taks specific discipline delivery role holders
- To make recommendations on make/buy decisions and selection.appointment and agreement of supply chain organisation
- to approve the engineering strategy, cost estimate and schedule for specific areas of responsibility
- prioritisation and allocation of work assignments for team and production of design deliverables

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Relevant engineering qualification
- Minimum two years project or program management experience
- Strong software application skills/experience with MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
- Experience administering collaborative tools e.g. WebEx Social, Web Portals, and Wikis (highly desired)
- Knowledge of the Project Management life-cycle, process and tools
- Strong ability to gather information and extract relevant data in order to understand business and technical requirements
- Strong ability to multitask, follow up and manage competing priorities.
- Strong partnering, influencing & communication skills for all levels (i.e. individuals at the peer, management and executive level)
