The Company:
A leading radioactive waste management company

The Role:
To support the Project and Operations teams in writing safety and environment documentation. This covers all documentation aspects, from risk assessments, working instructions and method statements to safety and environment assessments that enable new operations or waste disposal routes. The post-holder reports to the Tradebe Inutec Safety Manager (B4 ATO Holder), and is expected to work with a high degree of flexibility between the SHE&Q Team and the Operations Teams. Key relationships will therefore be with the Safety Manager (B4 ATO Holder), the Head of Operations, the SHEQ Compliance Manager and the project and service managers.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• To write safety documents such as general risk assessments, method statements and Work Instructions and to steer the documents through the route to approval.

• To prepare safety and environment assessments, including those which open up and enable new operations and waste disposal routes.

• To agree the basic approach to ionising radiation risk assessments with the RPA, then to write the documents and obtain RPA approval.

• To help the project and service managers to steer the Safe System of Work documentation through the on-site work control system (Work Authorisation Form) for non-routine work such as our campaign–based process operations.

• To help the project and service managers to steer the Safety System of Work documentation through off-site safety management systems.

• To assist with UNOR (Unusual Occurrence Report) investigations and associated action close-out and safety improvements

• On behalf of the project or service managers, to liaise with customers on SHE&Q documentation and related matters.

• To support the nuclear site licensing application and implementation project as required.

• To support operations in carrying out technical assessments and other tasks when required.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Degree (Engineering or Science), or equivalent or significant commensurate experience
• SHEQ Competency.
• 5+ years experience of writing documentation to support safety management systems
• Ability to apply safety and technical knowledge to complex problems in a clear and creative way.
• Ability to work unsupervised and to respond quickly to requirements of various operations managers.
• Communication skills - strong ability to speak with all grades of specialist; the ability to produce high-quality written reports, briefs etc. for wide range of audiences. Computer Literacy (MS Office)
• Self-Motivation & Positive “can-do” Attitude

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
• 5+ years experience of operations with radioactive materials
