The Company:
Pembroke Refinery currently has the following contract vacancy within our Policy, Government & Public Affairs department.

The Role:
The Public Affairs department’s primary objective is to represent the company with a consistent voice and to communicate with and engage the key audiences in our local community and across Wales.

The primary role will be to assist the PGPA Manager in day to day running of the PGPA department by responding to all letters of request, answer the phone on behalf of PGPA, and take calls regarding all public contacts. The candidate will have an understanding of PGPA policy and the relevant procedures, and assist with arrangements for employee activities and community events.

On a regular basis he/she will need to:

• Handle as many requests as possible ranging from raffle prize donations, information packs, complaints, general queries of day to day matters to political interface with Cardiff and Westminster governments.
• Be aware of calls from the press/media at any time.
• Manage the departmental budget in a spreadsheet.
• Sub-edit the refinery bulletin.
• Co-ordinate the primary school programme at Pwllcrochan Community Centre.
The incumbent may be asked to represent the client at many outside activities; therefore excellent social skills, diplomacy and discretion are vital.
We are looking for a proactive and resilient individual with a great deal of drive and initiative, capable of establishing credibility with employees at all levels. The role of Public Affairs Assistant is a hands-on role that demands the ability to work to tight deadlines together with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proactive in influencing change, the successful candidate will have proven business acumen and the flexibility to cope with changing priorities together with strong planning and analytical skills.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Candidates must possess good PC skills and an outgoing personality. A flexible attitude and the ability to adapt quickly to any situation are essential as the candidate may have to work some unsociable hours, including weekends and bank holidays.
Candidates must possess a driving licence and be eligible to work in the UK.
