The Company:
Our client has been established for over 20 years locally and is focused on delivering design solutions to the nuclear industry, specialising in the design of mechanical handling plant and equipment, the design and installation of plant control systems and the provision of support to plant safety reviews.

The Role:
The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that the standard of manufactured and procured parts sourced from external suppliers is fit for purpose. The Quality Inspector will assist suppliers in understanding quality requirements and ensure compliance and documentation is maintained to acceptable standards.

With a key focus on external suppliers, the Quality Inspector will be required to travel frequently within the UK.

Key responsibilities:
• Inspection of manufactured engineering components and bought-out items
• Approving, or obtaining client approval of, materials, production processes, systems of work, equipment and finished items
• Ensuring supplied work and supplied parts conform purchasing and quality specifications
• Assisting suppliers with producing quality plans and supporting quality documentation to specified requirements
• Signing off parts and milestones on quality plans
• Producing, collating and maintaining inspection and quality records as required
• Managing the flow-down of client quality requirements to suppliers
• Developing and monitoring corrective action processes
• Managing concessions and production permits
• Performing supplier assessments and audits

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Previous experience in a Quality Inspector role in a highly regulated industry
• Familiarity with formal quality systems, especially ISO9001:2008
• Experience of supplier development
• Formal qualifications in Quality, Engineering, Production, Manufacturing or related discipline
• Trained in quality auditing and suppler assessment
• Experience or familiarity with a wide range of metrology techniques and equipment
• Good understanding of engineering drawings and dimensional/geometric tolerancing
• Understanding of manufacturing principles such as quality planning, route cards and production controls
• Experience in engineering and manufacturing environments
• Experience in the nuclear industry or other sectors with formal quality requirements
• Competency in office software and familiarity with manufacturing software such as MRP/ERP
• Good report writing and communications skills
