The Company:
Our client is a major oil and gas company within Australia and is the largest producer of gas to the domestic market within the country. Active for more than 40 years, they have the largest exploration portfolio by area and are currently listed as one of Australia's Top 30 Companies.

The Role:
With significant construction underway in this LNG project, our client are looking for a Cost Engineer to join them to ensure the identification of commercial risks and trends, and minimization of cost growth.

As the Quantity Surveyor, you will monitor the EPC Contractor’s performance and ensure they properly implement all contract/commercial requirements at the construction location and that Company’s exposure to Variations, Delay Events, Delay Notices and Claims are factually supported.

Key accountabilities for this role include:
• Monitor the EPC Contractor’s performance of its contractual obligations and the EPCO Contractor’s Subcontractors and/or Suppliers
• Identify any non-conformance by the EPC contractor in its execution of the Work and record such failures and their implications in the Claims database.
• Verification of physical quantities in the field to allow detailed preparation of estimates of costs for work
• Administer and update the claims management system
• Develop counter arguments to potential Claims identified or notified by the EPC Contractor and ensure that support for future use of these arguments is included in regular correspondence and in response to Contractor communications on the respective subject
• Evaluate ongoing correspondence and records of conversations etc to identify potential claim positioning

This position is a 15month contract position. The position requires someone to be based in Gladstone working on site on Curtis Island. A commitment to be able to work 6 days per week is required.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably site based on large projects.
• Significant experience in quantity measurement techniques and contract interpretation
• Demonstrable experience in the application of advanced quantity measurement techniques and the assessment/application of work and time unit rates to work scope changes
• Familiarity with management and administration of potential claims and the requirements for counter claims and claim defence.
• Capable of analysing Contractor proposal’s for additional work scope, interpreting correct application of the Contract terms and conditions and be able to compile a summary evaluation of the claim in support of subsequent negotiations and agreements.
