The Company:
A Major Operator

The Role:
Select materials and develop lining and layer design (including anchoring and supports) for all heat enclosures requiring refractory lining systems
Demonstrate all aspects of refractory material sciences to properly enable, design, specification, installation support, on line surveillance, inspection, maintenance planning, repair and total quality management of refractory supply and services within all operating heat enclosure systems containing refractory linings.
Preparation of material specifications including minimum material design requirements from hot physical properties and relevant quality control requirements from normally provided cold physical property and manufactured defect data.
Preparation of specification for refractory installation including requirements for all applicable procedures, construction design (preparation and approval of construction design detail drawings), initial curing drying firing and heat up.
Develop basis for total quality management on all Refractory applications including for total quality of construction design, material supply, installation workmanship, on line and offline inspection criterion all with the use of accurate and applicable quality assurance plan (QAP) documented in applicable Inspection Test Plan (ITP)
Evaluate new and extensively repaired lining systems to facilitate asset management acceptance, to specify necessary repairs or to facilitate fitness for service risk assessments.
Inspect and evaluate used lining systems from all applications to assist in fitness for use evaluations and incremental damage risks associated with short term repairs and to assist in the evaluation of long term risk mitigation.
Manage refractory related Contractor activities such as EPC contracts for refractory design engineering and procurement services, material supply, lining installation supply, lining drying and firing services with auxiliary burner equipment, third party quality inspection and any other area where sub-contractor services may be used by asset manager for refractory lining services.
Author or partake in technical editing of refractory material and application DEP’s and provide competency training for refractories to all necessary refractory related disciplines, stakeholders and contractors.
Initiate R&D projects on little known refractory related issues and satisfy project leader responsibilities for budgets and completion

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelors degree (concentration in mechanical, materials or civil preferred)
Specialisation in refractory or ceramic is a strong asset
15 years of related work experience; with experience in a refinery or chemical plant settings
Experience in providing refractory design support
