The Role:
As the successful candidate, you will provide leadership and direction in the development and implementation of fixed equipment reliability programs and procedures in a refinery environment while focusing on personnel and equipment safety. This is a working supervisor role.
This is an excellent opportunity to build upon your leadership skills to:

•Direct the workload and priorities of the team of fixed equipment engineers, contractors, and/or technicians
•Lead the yearly goal/objective setting and performance review process for the team
•Work with Maintenance and Operations Supervision to improve unit reliability through maintenance work and may supervise the installation of the work
•Provide mechanical technical support to the area team and others throughout the refinery as needed. Including analysis of failed items, recommendation of design changes to prevent repeat failures or extend run lengths
•Work closely with the inspection department to perform fitness-for-service evaluation of items identified by the ongoing mechanical integrity program. This includes making “run” vs. “shutdown” recommendations to site management
•Lead Management of Change process for all mechanical changes and projects in the assigned area
•Participate in safety reviews, HAZOPS, and promote a safe work environment
•Provide technical support related to reliability, code compliance, maintainability and constructability, for longer capital projects executed by the Project Engineering group.
•Act as subject matter expert for pipe fabrication specifications, pressure vessel repairs, etc.
•Work as part of the Maintenance team to identify are improvements, quantify the benefits (technical & economical), cost estimate, oversee/perform design and implementation, ensure timely training of appropriate area personnel regarding each improvement and ensure timely updating of appropriate documentation
•Author, present and track Authorization for Expenditure’s (AFE) for approval to execute Fixed Equipment Reliability Projects
•Update and maintain work list status information on assigned capital, expense, or turnaround projects
•Provide project management controls oversight on assigned projects for expenditures, schedule, quality, contracting strategy, and scope attainment
•Monitor contractor activity for progress and quality on maintenance, engineering and construction projects

Business travel may be required approximately 10% of the time.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

Top 3:

-Experience of code work is critical
-The ability to work in a team environment and be experienced in effective communication across various departments
-Hands on experience will be important

•A Bachelor Degree in Engineering, preferably with a major in Mechanical Engineering
•Designation as a “Professional Engineer” would be an asset
•7-10 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably with an industrial, refinery or petro-chemical environment
•3-5 years previous experience in the supervision of professional staff
•A good working knowledge of American Petroleum Institute (API) standards – API 570, API 650, API 653, API 579
•Familiarity with National Board Inspection Codes (NBIC)
•Excellent Project Management skills
•A thorough knowledge and understanding of root cause failure analysis
•A good working knowledge of mechanical integrity methods
•Good computer skills and proficiency in Microsof
