The Company:
Our client is a nuclear specialist, covering both civilian and defence sectors, across the complete lifecycle from New Build, through Operations and Maintenance, to final decommissioning and waste disposal.

The Role:
As a senior member of the Engineering Design Management Team, the Principal Mechanical Engineer/Responsible Engineer will manage multi-discipline engineering resources to ensure design delivery to projects and adherence to design processes and standards.
The Principal Mechanical Engineer/Responsible Engineer is principally a design delivery role from a technical perspective working across a multi-disciplined design team. The Principal Mechanical Engineer/ Responsible Engineer is usually responsible for delivering the design within their own discipline with frequent liaison / management of engineers within the design team from other disciplines. They will also provide technical guidance and imparts knowledge to Senior Engineers, Lead Engineers, Design engineers, Graduates and Designers.
The Responsible Engineer is responsible to the Area Engineering manager for design delivery and to the Programme Responsible Engineer for Assurance and Quality. They will have experience of mechanical handling equipment.

Activities outlined below are to be carried out at the Risley Engineering Design Office;
• Ensure work areas and designs are Safe (SHE)
• Act as Senior Design professional in relevant discipline
• Ensure Compliance with Design Process
• Resource Management and Line Management within discipline group
• Oversee design delivery for selected projects
• Business Combinations
• Radiological Protection

Minimum of 10 years experience in Nuclear In Cell ME&I Plant Design and delivery.
A working knowledge/understanding of:-
o Sound Knowledge of Nuclear Safety Case & H&S legislation
Nuclear Regulator expectations and security
o Decommissioning Knowledge
o Nuclear Operational and Maintenance requirements
o Site construction, installation and setting to work
o Commissioning Requirements
o Integrated Design Management
o Design substantiation and underpinning
Mechanical Handling Equipment

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Degree or HNC Qualified in a relevant technical / engineering discipline is essential. Chartered Engineer status is normal for this position and is largely driven by client expectations however this is not always a limiting factor and candidates nearing chartership are eligible. Membership to appropriate institutions is preferred e.g. CIBSE, MIMechE. A full UK drivers licence is essential for this position as travelling between offices may be required

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
A professional engineering qualification is desirable BUT not essential and is dependent upon age and experience.
o Professional Chartered Status is desirable BUT not essential
o A working Knowledge of Sellafield Limited Assurance, working procedures and practices would be a distinct advantage
