The Role:
Role synopsis
Safety & Operational Risk Audit Group supplies management and the audit committee of the board with a systematic and structured operations-focused audit program.

The position is for a Rig Auditor to be based within the Safety & Operational Risk Audit Group reporting to the Director of Rig Auditing. The successful individual will work with the other rig auditors on assignments at various worldwide locations.

Peers of this position would be S&OR auditors and verifiers. The Rig Auditor (Rig Equipment) position does not have subordinates but will lead audit teams.

In support of COMPANY’s global wells organisation operations, the rig audit group responds to specific audit requests, including marine assurance audits, and rig acceptance audits. The work will involve assessing equipment on drilling rigs against standards, documenting gaps and communicate matters to senior management.

All COMPANY worldwide locations, including offshore, where drilling takes place

Frequent travel, both domestic and international, is an integral part of the job, as are offshore and onshore rig-site visits.

Consequently the work involves working a 21/21 day rotation.

Key accountabilities
Work will be to the standards and processes based on COMPANY’s Drilling and Well Operations Practice, Group Standards, Engineering Technical Practice, internationally recognized standards such as API, lessons learnt from recorded incidents, good operational practice and local/regional governmental legislation.

Key roles and responsibilities include:
Liaise with Drilling Contractors and the Global Wells Organisation to work to audit goals & guidelines.
Ability to gather, analyse, and use information, and experience to objectively determine and assess the operational drilling and safety risks.
Ensure that any findings are fully understood by Drilling Contractor and the Global Wells Organisation.
Champion HSSE at all times and represent the rig audit group in a professional manner.
Convey the audit team’s expectations and obligations regarding safety.
Stop an unsafe act if witnessed and immediately report any unsafe conditions.
Write comprehensive technical reports in a timely manner.
Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Maintain up to date knowledge relating to new safety and technical standards, industry best practices, etc.
Ability to effectively review drilling and well control procedures to determine current status and conformance with performance standards

Key Challenges
Execute audit demands against audit schedule.
Ability to work within and lead multi discipline audit teams.
Ability to work on own in diverse locations both on and offshore.
Determine key risk areas and effectively communicate these to Drilling Contractor and the Global Wells Organisation to drive safe and compliant operations.
Personal commitment and proactive approach to HSSE.
Ability to effectively communicate and interact with operations staff and management.
Ability to write accurate and comprehensive technical reports in a timely manner.
Derrick inspections are a key component of a rig audit and therefore the candidate should have no concerns for climbing derricks
Other Relevant Information
Rig auditors lead and/or work in teams on a wide variety of assignments focused on the identification and mitigation of the critical safety and operability risks impacting on business delivery. The successful candidate will participate in drilling rig audits and rig acceptance processes onshore and offshore at worldwide locations. This would be in support of the Drilling and Well Operations Practice and Engineering Technical Practice assurance processes. After a period of “on the job” training the candidate will lead audit teams or conduct specific task based assignments and or research work as the lead role.

The individual will lead audit teams, ensure completion of the audit report and report back to the Global Wells Organisation on recommended actions arising from the audit. The appointee would then follow up to verify closure of any recommended actions. Members of the rig audit group are involved in pre-contract rig selection processes and rig contractor evaluations plus other relevant rig related activities that support our business.
Broad based experience in drilling operations and practices is a pre-requisite for the post with an expectation that the selected candidate will have spent a significant proportion of time as a Drilling Superintendent / Rig Manager / Well Site Leader / Drilling Engineer with experience of drilling activities, both on and offshore.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Essential Education

Minimum qualification is BS in an engineering discipline. Educated to degree level and Chartered Engineer/Professional Engineer in an engineering or related discipline is preferred.

Offshore survival and health certificates including HUET are essential. Candidates must be able to obtain the necessary

Safety and health certificates to allow for offshore work.

Essential experience and job requirements
Extensive experience in drilling operations management is essential. Knowledge of deepwater operations and HPHT wells is an advantage.

Broad based knowledge of drilling engineering, operations and practices

Experience as Drilling Superintendent, Rig Manager, Well Site Leader or Senior Drilling Engineer

Knowledge of drilling industry standards such as API, etc

A demonstrable technical audit, safety audit or general auditing track record as an audit team leader will be an advantage.

Proven track record as a strong team player and ability
