The Company:
Our Client is a world leading Automotive OEM which is responsible for some of the most iconic 4x4's & Sports Cars produced. Due to the huge demand for current models and substantial investment in future projects there is a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering & manufacturing on a contract basis.

The Role:
The position is that of a Rig Engineer working within the Powertrain Rig Test team. The role will involve the management and installation of tests onto powertrain rigs, as well as the day to day running of the rig itself. Systems under test can range from component level testing on transmissions and driveline components through to full power-pack testing, including HV elements of powertrains.
This will involve:
• Managing delivery of rig tests from an initial request, across a number of rig test facilities.
• Developing rig layouts for a range of different tests.
• Design rig components and arrange for manufacture and procurement through various routes.
Supporting local Health and Safety practices, risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work, 5S process etc.
Manage and develop the Asset Management System for the Rig Test team gauges and fixtures.

Essential Experience & Qualifications:

3 KEY SKILLS REQUIRED: Experience in a powertrain testing environment. Familiar with dynamometers, control and measurement systems. Able to use fault finding tools to resolve issues with rigs or systems under test in order to resolve issues and minimise rig downtime. Experience with HEV systems and the safe systems of work surrounding HEV working environment.

Qualified to a minimum of degree level in engineering, with demonstrable experience in running test rigs.
Experince in the following is required:
• Powertrain engine, transmission and driveline control systems.
• Rig infrastucture (fueling, coolent, air supply etc)
The candidate should be a driven individual, maintaining a positive personal approach to maximise the impact they can have on the role; demanding high performance not only from themselves, but fostering an environment to enable peers to do the same.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must; in particular an ability to accurately communicate technical information to both the customer and supply base.
They should also be a strong team player with the ability to build strong collaborative relationships, enabling the customer and supply base to work effectively and efficiently with the team.
An ability to drive efficient delivery should be demonstrated, ensuring a schedule driven environment is maintained and improved.

An understanding of the following would be beneficial:
• AC/DC motor drives, robot drive systems and heat exchanger cooling systems.
• Use of calibration tools such as INCA and CANalyser.
• CAN, Flexray and Ethercat interface and control systems and ASAP interface.
• Electric vehicle systems (including hybrid) and High Voltage test environments.
Strong IT skills are essential, and experience of CAD packages would be highly beneficial (Catia or AutoCAD).
Full UK driving license would be highly beneficial. This role will require the successful candidate to work at Gaydon, and on occasions at Whitley and other offsite test locations.
