A major EPCM Client within the Mining and Minerals industry. Working on major projects in Western Australia.

The Role:
Job Title - Safety Advisor

Reporting To - Safety Superintendent

The Safety Advisor’s role is to provide support to the Safety Superintendent through the implementation of the HSE Procedures.


The Safety Advisor is required to demonstrate leadership and commitment in relation to the implementation of the HSE Management Plan.

Common Responsibilities

 To live and promote the Project Covenants and Objectives.

 To meet the position Objectives and KPI’s.

 To be personally responsible for Zero Incident & Injuries.


Specific Responsibilities
Assist managing Project Staff and Contractors working in their area of the project with respect to:-

 HSE System implementation;

 Coordinate with the Safety Superintendent to manage impact on other activities;

 Interface with project staff for HSE matters and support services;

 Assist Contractor HSE Plan implementation

 Design, develop, prepare & conduct safety training

 Identify safety training needs on a project & research appropriate (training) solutions

 Contribute to developing work procedures, especially in new activities

 Preparation of data on safety performance, identification of trends & opportunities for improvement

 Conducting accident & incident investigations & propose new systems of work or equipment where appropriate

 Assist managing change and recording and obtaining authorisation in accordance with Project Change Management Procedures.

 Assist in the implementation of all aspects of the HSE Procedures including audits/inspections of the contractors’ areas, hazard card reports, accident/incident investigations reporting, issue of access permits, safe behavioural observations, conducting additional safety meetings and weekly workplace Inspections as and when required etc.

 JHA and Take 5 Auditing for Quality, task specific and compliance.

 Assist in ensuring that relevant contractors and personnel adhere to the HSE Procedures. Assist in identifying HSE training (and awareness) needs for the project.

 Coordinate and conduct (where necessary) training courses.

 Conduct the induction of all project workforce and visitors on HSE responsibilities.

 Carry out instructions or directions given by the Registered Mine Manager from time to time to ensure compliance with the Mines Safety & Inspection Act 1994.

 Coach project staff in their HSE roles.

 Actively participate in and support Zero Incident and Injury culture.

 Support and supervise the Behaviour Based Coaching of Contractors and supervisors on the Project site.

 Review and provide guidance for the implementation of Emergency plans and procedures for the site.

 Assist in the preparation and ongoing implementation of effective Journey management,

 Assist the Safety Superintendent to monitor the performance of contractors to ensure contract and project objectives are complied with.

 Inspect the work under each contract daily and advise the contractor of any corrective actions needed as they occur.

 Ensure site entry requirements for plant, equipment and people are adhered to.

 Assist maintaining documentation relating to performance on the contract.

 Conform with the requirements for communication with contractors and site administration issues.

 Assist with maintaining detailed records of contractor’s performance and review with the Safety Superintendent to ensure compliance with the project implementation requirements.

 Report weekly to the Safety Superintendent the performance on each work area.

 Attend daily pre-starts meetings with contractors.

 Conduct formal inspections/Audits during the Project

 Coordinate with construction personnel, contractors, statutory authorities, client etc. to allow operational shutdowns, relocations or tie-ins to existing plant and services to be risk assessed prior to start.

 Provide advice when required to inspection staff and assist in ensuring they are fully aware of their goals and responsibilities, have the correct information, feedback from contractor discussions and sufficient information to carry out allocated duties.

 In conjunction with the Safety Superintendent maintain good relations with statutory authorities, local companies adjacent to the site and client representatives.

 Assist to arrange, if directed, that all environmental/noise/etc surveys are carried out as required.

 Assist in commissioning duties as and when required.

 Assist with all queries, issues, changes etc. requested by contractors and assist in ensuring all HSE procedures are in place

 Provide all reasonable assistance and cooperation to contractors in the execution of their work.

 Review proposed and actual changes to project implementation and contractor activities and report any concerns.

 Pre-empt problems to the HSE performance and recommend strategies to overcome any delay.

 Assist with ensuring changes from the Procedures are managed in accordance with the Project Change Management Process and that all changes are authorised prior to execution.





Note: Additional tasks can be created during the course of the Project which are either additional to or substitution for original set of tasks.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Required: OHS Cert IV accreditation, Cert IV training and assessment

Previous HSE role, significant EPCM previous experience

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
 Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel

 Understanding of and ability to follow Company & Client policies and procedures

 Ability to adapt to and promote change where desired

 Ability to organise and establish priorities

 Understanding emergency response procedures

 Ability to investigate safety incidents

 Understanding safety regulations and industry safety standards

 Ability to create/develop work instructions, procedures & JSAs

 Knowledge of Duty of Care requirements

 Ability to schedule external HSE audits

 Ability to collect/input data and prepare reports

 Ability to provide advice and train others in safety related matters
