The Role:
To exercise overall management responsibility for the Quality, Safety & Environment and Facilities teams and act as the key Company advisor on Safety and Environmental matters.
 Visible leadership of improvement activities in quality, safety and environment culture and processes.
 Responsibility for the Safety and Environmental Management Systems and associated advice. This includes advice to Operations staff on HSE matters within CDM regulated projects.
 Ensure company-wide understanding of, and compliance with, relevant safety and environmental legislation.
 Ongoing development and implementation of behaviourally based safety programmes and other specific HSE training.
 Strategic responsibility for the IMS including review and development of systems and processes to meet Company requirements, and for their implementation, monitoring and control.
 Overall responsibility for Facilities Management, including management of key suppliers in accordance with SLAs and budgets.
 Reports to Corporate Services Director
 Operations Director and other Operations staff
 Quality Manager
 Facilities Manager
 HR Manager
 External accreditation agencies and suppliers
 Nebosh Diploma or equivalent essential.
 At least 5 years’ experience in QSE environment. Experience of works covered by the CDM Regulations would be an advantage (though the role does not involve large construction works).
 Rail industry experience may be an advantage but more important is overall level of leadership ability, expertise and knowledge in relevant areas.
 Engineering background useful but not essential.
 We may seek certification to ISO 27001 (Information Security) because of the importance to cyber security to the rail industry as part of the national infrastructure. We are engaging with security specialists to assist us but, if successful, this post will be responsible for the ongoing certification processes as part of maintaining our IMS. (We are not expecting the post holder to have security knowledge.)
