The Company:
Our Client is one of the world's largest Oil and Gas companies. Their operations cover the entire energy chain, including oil exploration and production to trading, shipping and refining and marketing of petroleum products, as well as chemicals. The Role:
To provide technical safety engineering support to the project team and ensure the project meets our clients and international standards for safe design, construction and installation.

Activities
•To identify, evaluate and assess the major and occupational hazards and technical safety risks associated with the design and construction of the projects development. This may require commissioning such activities from Contractors and Consultants.
•To make recommendations based on these assessments to control risks to an ALARP level in line with the companies risk criteria..
•To advise Contractors, Vendors, the project team and other departments of requirements to comply with legislation, corporate and group standards and guidance.
•To provide assurance that Safety Engineering activities conducted by Contractors and Consultants meet the required standards.
•Independently develop the specification for specific safety engineering studies
•Gain approval for budgets and plans for operational work (e.g. Studies or modifications) and manage/follow the cost controlling process, ensuring that closure expenditure is within acceptable % of original budget
•Manage the planning process for a complete task ensuring timescales are met
•Draft procedures and work scopes relating to safety engineering
•Liaise/communicate with specialists in external agencies (e.g. HSE and DECC) and ensure that company statutory reporting requirements are carried out
•Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, HAZAN, SIL and other reviews in support of the project SHE Department..
•Contract Management Representative on simple contracts ensuring that contracts are managed efficiently and cost effectively and that productive and positive relationships with key contractors and suppliers are established and maintained
•Proactively identify issues/problems to be addressed and by maintaining close contact with other project disciplines and external professional networks and identify solutions
•Provide technical guidance regarding working practice/timescale of work carried out for contracted services
•Develop and review performance standards for safety

LOCATION
Based in our clients offices in Aberdeen
Occasional travel to design engineering contractors offices and fabrication facilities.
Occasional travel to the Shetland

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Professional qualification in Safety Engineering
• Chartered status or working towards it
• Specialist in own area or discipline
• Thorough knowledge of UK onshore and offshore major hazards legislation.
• Thorough knowledge of risk assessment techniques and ability to contribute to HAZOP, HAZID, HAZAN and other reviews.
• Previous knowledge of Total safety management systems such as General Specifications, Golden Rules and Maestro preferred.
