The Role:
Responsibilities of the SunEdison Safety Officer include:
1) Safety
a) Implement and improve global safety standards and guidelines applicable to the assigned area and sites.
b) Develop and implement site specific safety plans
c) Interface with local EPC safety personnel on requirements and expectations for SunEdison projects, review and approve contractor safety plans
d) Implement the regional site risk assessment program to audit/score sites and report out findings..
e) Deliver ESH training, when region or project specific the ESH Area Manager will develop the training content.
f) Ensure all serious incidents or recordable injuries are investigated according to the 8D process
g) Track and report safety metrics for assigned regions (TRR, SIR, Contractor injuries etc)
h) Lead monthly ESH global reviews with regional leaders
i) Participate in weekly coordination meetings with SE Area ESH Managers
j) Ensure all sites within the assigned region are in compliance with local safety regulations and OPIC, IFC, EICC, SEIA guidelines
k) Achieve and then maintain OSHAS 18000 certification globally
l) Implement programs for hazard control, chemical hazard control, PPE standards etc based on corporate standards.
m) Ensure contractual ESH language regarding EHS requirements is included in contracts for EPC vendors and suppliers.
n) Act as a consultant to the operations group for any safety issues and lead investigations into serious incidents

2) Environmental
a) Implement, or improve global environmental standards and guidelines for the Solar BU specific to solar power installations.
b) Develop and implement environmental and social action plans when required for the projects within the assigned region.
c) Ensure all sites in the assigned area are in compliance with local environmental regulations, lender requirements, and OPIC, IFC, EICC, and SEIA guidelines.
d) Achieve and then maintain ISO 14000 compliance for the assigned region
e) Ensure local environmental impact studies are conducted, associated action plans are executed, and that permits are pulled in a timely manner for all projects in the assigned region
f) Select and manage work of environmental consultants where applicable to do site impact assessment and other work.
g) Where required, assure that environmental monitoring programs are executed for sites that we own and operate.
h) Implement recycling and waste reduction programs
i) Manage carbon credit programs for assigned region
j) Track and report environmental statistics (carbon offsets) where applicable
k) Act as a consultant to the operations group for any environmental issues and lead investigations into serious incidents.
l) Maintain all environmental/regulatory permits required for the operation of solar sites in the assigned region.
3) Loss Prevention
a) Coordinate loss prevention audits for sites within the assigned region
b) Schedule site assessments and implement corrective action items
4) Sustainability
a) Provide support to HR/Admin on local community education and outreach programs (hazard education, health assessments etc.)
b) Track and report carbon offset as a result of power generation within the defined region
