The Company:
Our client is a major EPC working in the oil and gas sector.

The Role:
We have an urgent requirement for a Senior Civil Engineer to work within the multi-disciplinary engineering team that supports our Infrastructure Government and Power Group based within the our offices in Leatherhead for a circa 3 month assignment with a possible further 3 month extension, starting 22nd September 2014.
Scope

Reporting to the Discipline Lead Engineer, you will provide engineering support for a variety of on-going contracts and bid preparation for UK and international projects. As part of the Technical Team you will be expected to have a positive and flexible approach to all projects and to show autonomy in decisions.


Under general supervision you will be responsible for delivery of projects from inception to completion, either as lead or assistant engineer depending on circumstances. You will perform all conventional aspects of the discipline area subject matter, including but not limited to; design and development, producing and checking design calculations, preparation of technical specifications & enquiries, research investigations, and report preparation. Your work may require investigation of related areas and technologies outside of your previous experience.

Responsibilities

Provide general civil and structural engineering support to the IGP Design & Technical Team as required.
Devise initial concepts, prepare concept designs, and develop detailed designs for civil engineering design tasks.
Prepare and/or instruct, manage and check associated CAD output.
Produce detailed specifications and scopes of work.
Review and report on third party civil and structural design submissions.
Provide technical guidance and advice to other elements of the Design & Technical Team, Procurement Team, Project Management Team and Clients as required.
Be prepared to adapt engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to meet unusual Client requirements

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Skills typically acquired through an undergraduate degree in civil/structural engineering followed by at least 6 years relevant employment experience.
Experience in the design of building foundation systems.
Experience in the design of road pavements.
Experience in the design of drainage systems, including piped and open channel systems.
Familiarity with relevant design software packages.
Familiarity with the relevant standards and legislation.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Sufficient professional experience to assure competence as a fully trained professional. Certification with ICE as a Chartered Civil Engineer, or equivalent, is preferred.
Experience in aspects of structural design, such as building superstructures, would be advantageous.
Design experience using a variety of material types, particularly structural steel and reinforced concrete, would be advantageous.
Proven ability to deliver project work, to British Standards.
A good understanding of the commercial implications of the work being performed.
Good organisational and prioritisation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to use initiative to work independently, as well as work within a team.
In addition the role requires competent use of MS Office and AutoCAD.
