The Company:
Our Client’s engineering division, has been a leader in the design of drilling facilities for offshore platforms worldwide for over 30 years. The company’s 700-strong workforce provides a range of engineering services from pre-project and Front End Engineering Design (FEED) through detail design, construction support, hook-up and commissioning.

The Role:
Purpose Of Job: A Senior Contracts Engineer - Our Client is responsible for providing contract related advice on new and existing contracts, monitoring the financial performance of all current contracts, assisting in the tendering and controlling the negotiating of terms and conditions for new contracts and amendments to existing agreements in line with the Companies contracting process and procedures. They will also participate in the implementation of the business development plan with regards to the identification of future work and securing same, reviewing Company commercial policies and strategies in the light of varying market circumstances and recommend suitable changes to the Commercial Manager.

The Senior Contracts Engineer - Will also have a supporting role in the formulation, implementation and amendment of contract remuneration values and principles.

Other Contract/Commercial Staff as may be required.
Key Tasks
(a) Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the Company Management System Procedures.
(b) Review Company commercial and contractual policies and strategies and recommend to Commercial Manager – any changes considered necessary.
(c) Periodically review the above procedures to ensure their effectiveness and where required, to propose amendments and ensure their implementation.
(d) Liaise with other members of the Commercial Department and other department managers as appropriate in the implementation of business development plans, as required.
(e) Assist Business and Operations Managers with the negotiation of terms and conditions with clients for new contracts.
(f) Receive and check final contract documents/amendments from clients, initial paperwork and arrange execution by applicable financial authority, and distribute fully executed copies to relevant departments.
(g) Assist Business Manager / Operations Manager and Project Managers with contraual correspondence, claims and final project closure.
(h) Identify potential commercial risks and propose means to enable company to mitigate them.
(i) Assist in the negotiation of major subcontractors, to ensure the most cost effective agreements. Where applicable, if there is a main contract with the client, ensure as a minimum a full ‘back to back’ agreement: Client – Company – Subcontractor.
(j) Issue, administer and amend where necessary non-project specific subcontracts.
(k) Assist the Projects and Business units in applying for contract amendments when due, i.e. rate revisions and term extensions.
(l) Maintain regular contact with Business Managers, Operations Managers and Projects Managers regarding operational, invoicing or contract administration problems. Report serious situations to the SVP for Commercial Manager, together with the recommendations for remedial action.
(m) Liaise and advise the client offices regarding day-to-day contract administration.
(n) Ensure Cost and Planning Function is kept informed of up to date contract remuneration data.
(o) Review and assist in the Commercial Functional development process and plan making recommendations as appropriate to the Commercial Manager.
(p) Audit the contracts to ensure compliance as may be required by the Business Unit, SVP for and Commercial function.

Primary Responsibilities:
Safety
(a) Familiarise themselves with the Company Safety Policy and take all reasonable care to ensure the health and safety of themselves and persons likely to be affected by their acts or omissions as required by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.

Financial
(a) Assist in the compilation and preparation of Tender documents and other formal contractual and commercial submissions.
(b) Review draft contract terms for comment and recommend commercial terms.
(c) Receive and control contract documentation on behalf of Departments and the Company.
Business Development
(a) Support the Commercial Manager with the commercial involvement in the formation of business development plans and participate in their implementation, as required.
Departmental Development
(a) Support the Contracts/Commercial Function Development process.
Systems and Processes
(a) Where required as Action Party, close out RFA’s and RAF’s in a timely manner.
People
(a) Supervise other Contracts / Commercial staff as may be required from time to time.
