Supervisor job Title Inspection Section Head

Purpose of the Job:
Provides expertise and assumes responsibility for areas related to Corrosion Monitoring and Control in Refinery Division. Reviews the metallurgy of the equipment and piping and makes recommendations for upgrading as required. Reviews the operating conditions to assess and monitor corrosive condition and evaluates the material performance in all corrosive systems.

Reviews the metallurgy for the modifications and major projects. Updates procedures and specifications related to Corrosion Management and Inspection activities and recommends repairs/operating parameters to extend the life of equipment and piping.
Carries out failure analysis and failure investigations in order to enhance safety and integrity of the plant. Supervises the cathodic protection system upkeep and monitoring of piping, tanks, marine and concrete structures. Updates/prepares the records and Corrosion/Inspection files for the plant and equipment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Corrosion Monitoring and corrosion control. Conducts corrosion monitoring and corrosion control for the plants equipment, storage tanks and pipelines and prepares periodic corrosion reports. To ensure integrity and reliability of RRD equipment.
2. Cathodic protection. Reviews the existing cathodic protection systems design, highlights problems and suggests improvements. To ensure protection of all respective structures/ equipment at RRD.
3. Projects specifications. Reviews project specifications for corrosion control, material and quality assurance aspects. To ensure project specifications are compatible with respective environment.
4. Failure analysis. Reviews the inspection/ corrosion observations and analyzes the same after turnaround and on-stream inspections and makes necessary recommendations. To identify causes of corrosion/failure and recommend remedies.
5. Corrosion monitoring tools. Reviews the existing corrosion monitoring tools and advises upgrading as required. To keep abreast with the latest technology to ensure effective corrosion monitoring.
6. Corrosion control policies / Procedures. Reviews the Corrosion control policies/ procedures and upgrades the same as required. To ensure effective corrosion control.
7. Replica. Carries out on site metallography using replica techniques, evaluates microstructure condition and issue reports. To monitor microstructures condition.
8. Risk Based Inspection. Carries out thorough and detailed review of all RRD units to define the corrosion loops and carries out detailed study to meet the requirements of Risk Based I inspections, To attach proper focus to the right equipment and processes to optimize number of equipments to be considered for detailed inspection without jeopardizing the integrity/ reliability of RRD equipment.

Supervision, Planning and Organising:

- Provides technical advice and expertise to the Division.
- Provides work guidance to inspection Engineers and Inspectors.
- Reviews and upgrades corrosion control and corrosion monitoring systems within RRD to maintain plant integrity.

Work Contacts:

Internal: Regular contacts with Section Heads and managers of the Division, contact with Engineering & Technical Services Department in E&PD, Project Departments in E&PD, Procurement & Contracts Division up to Section Head level.

External:Contacts with consultants and specialized research centers as required during Project works and failure investigation up to Manager level.

About the Job:
The Senior Corrosion Engineer position reports to Section Head and being the only such job in he Division, he is expected to provide expert advice to RRD Management in the field of corrosion. The jobholder is responsible for issuing reports explaining reasons and causes for matters related to material degradation, corrosion monitoring and control. The job requires long experience in the Corrosion Engineering field, backed up with appropriate qualifications. He is expected to keep abreast with the latest technology in the field of plant integrity, corrosion monitoring control and failure investigation.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
1. B.Sc in Metallurgical, Mechanical or Chemical engineering.

2. 7 years experience in process and utilities of Petroleum refineries, Chemical Process plants, Petrochemical plants of which 4 years as specialist in Corrosion Engineering.

3. Good knowledge of English.
