The Role:

Job Purpose:

To review the well designs, review drilling programs and to approve all equipment and materials specified for these wells, ensuring all Drilling Engineering activities comply with standards and local regulation requirements.

Key Accountabilities:
• Prepare well designs, detailed drilling programs and budgets for the wells in accordance with standards, based on the well objectives specified by the subsurface team
• Ensure equipment and materials required for the drilling operations are specified in detail and ordered in time, complying with the Procurement and Contracting process

SSHE
• Contribute to HAZID/HAZOP activities, SSHE reviews and follow-up of action items
• Ensure that high SSHE standards and technical integrity is maintained in all designs and programs
• Ensure the Drilling Program is in line with the SSHE Management System and Drilling Management System (DMS) and provide input for improvement as required
• Provide input for emergency response plans and risk management process by conducting risk assessments, prioritizing remedial actions and assigning owners for follow up

Operations
• Provide Drilling Engineering support to the Drilling Engineering Manager
• Review feasibility studies and conceptual well designs prepared by Drilling Engineers
• Prepare drilling engineering designs including AFE preparation.
• Ensure regulatory requirements are followed
• Conduct DWOP, peer reviews and pre-start audits and ensure that findings and recommendations are followed-up
• Assist in the preparation of contracts and service orders
• Organize end of well reviews and prepare end of well reports
• Evaluate AARs and follow up recommendations and share learning points
• Obtain approval of the well programs
• Manage any necessary changes in the signed well program following the MOC procedures

People
• Assist the Drilling Engineering Manager to resource the Drilling Engineering team as appropriate to cover all Drilling Engineering requirements and to define objectives for the Drilling Department
• Participate in creating one Drilling Engineering team with good communication to other drilling sections, sub-surface – and other departments
• Provide coaching to Graduate Drilling Engineers
• Contribute to drilling performance improvement plans
• Assist the Drilling Engineering Manager in the management of Drilling Engineering Contractors providing support with selection, evaluation, supervision of work, quality control of work delivered and resolving technical issues

Job End Results:
• Delivery of quality well engineering designs and drilling programs or execution procedures complete with risk assessment and mitigation plans, detailed time and cost estimates and meet the well objectives specified by the sub-surface team
• Ensure that all Drilling Engineering activities are conducted in accordance with SSHE Management System and the Drilling Management System (DMS)
• All equipment and materials for the wells specified are ordered in time
• Continuous improvement culture with proven results in Drilling Engineering activities and Drilling Operations and optimal selection of technology
• Selection of Drilling Engineering Contractors in accordance with the Procurement and Contracting process
• All contractors deliver on time, safely, within budget and without deviation from any standards
• Continuous monitoring and auditing of contractors to ensure delivery as per contract
Professional Education & Experience:
• Qualifications – Bachelor Degree in Petroleum, Mining Engineering or equivalent

• Certifications & training
- Industry training in drilling technology and HSE
- Current IWCF certificate, supervisory sub-sea level, and HUET

• Professional Experience
- Minimum of 10 years oil and gas drilling experience with an operating company, with a combination of onshore and offshore floating drilling an advantage

- Formation instability while drilling - characterizing geology/formation pressure and fracture gradient prediction
- Offset analysis for problem identification
- Directional program (including horizontal and high angle program / multi-lateral program)
- Drilling fluid and solids control system selection
- Bit program, hydraulics, drilling mechanics / drillstring design
- Wellhead and casing design and selection
- Cementing program design
- Performance optimization
