The Company:
Our Client is a global Exploration & Production company focused on the increase of production and reserves, the geographic diversification of activity with increased presence in OECD countries, operational excellence and maximising the profitability of assets. Currently is looking for a Senior Drilling Engineer (Deepwater) for their project in Namibia on a residential basis.

The Role:
Main Purpose:
To lead the drilling engineering team carrying out the well design and engineering work for specific wells, projects and drilling units as assigned by the Drilling Manager.


1. Ensure that the well operations are carried out in a safe manner and that well objectives are achieved on time within budget, and without any adverse effect on the environment.
2. Ensure that all well operations are planned and performed in compliance with the approved Company Corporate Policies. These include, but are not limited to, directives/policy on business ethics, security, health, safety and the environment.
3. Work with the Drilling Manager and Superintendent to set performance targets for the assigned wells.
4. Provide engineering support to the superintendent for Drilling Contracting activities. Prepare Technical Scopes of Work for third party services and drilling service contracts in line with the tendering strategy.
5. Carry out the technical evaluation of third party services and drilling service contract tenders in line with the tendering strategy.
6. Carry out the necessary engineering calculations and studies to ensure that the well designs achieve the well objectives in the most efficient manner whilst ensuring that the risks of unplanned release of fluids from the well are ALARP. This includes, but is not limited to casing design, directional well path, drill string design, torque/drag/hydraulics, casing wear, drilling fluids, cementing, and rig capabilities.
7. Make continuous efforts to improve drilling performance by well researched applications of new tools and techniques.
8. Work with the Geology and Geophysics team to prepare all programmes, consents and notifications in compliance with Company Corporate Policies and Government legislative requirements.
9. Prepare probabilistic well time estimates for AFE purposes.
10. Maintain close liaison with sub-surface specialists.
11.Document the well design using the system of check-lists as required by Company.
12. Provide engineering support to the Superintendent during operations on assigned wells. Attend the morning call to the rig to discuss the days planned activities and to discuss the conditions encountered in the well and prepare revisions to the well design or well programme and procedures that may result.
13. Where material changes to the plan are required, prepare written amendments to the programme and gain dispensation from the relevant authority when appropriate.
14. Deputise as required for the drilling superintendent or Drilling Manager.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Degree in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent
Extensive experience in planning and drilling offshore and onshore oil and gas wells
Deepwater experience
