The Role:
The Senior Drilling Engineer will support the delivery of drilling related milestones to progress the development of well designs and drilling equipment. This is full-time Houston office based position that may, as time progresses; require prospective equipment supplier and sub-supplier visits. This role will involve the development and qualification of technology that will extend the operating current deep water subsea drilling capabilities to 20,000 psi at the mudline. Primary Responsibilities:
•Perform detailed well engineering to support the selection and definition of well designs and drilling options for global prospects.
•Perform engineering analysis to ensure that designs are in compliance with applicable government regulations and conformance with policies.
•Identify and document risks associated with system designs and collaborate with cross functional teams to capture and close out risk reduction actions.
•Assess existing and proposed drilling equipment for reliability, functionality, and redundancy
•Support the delivery of selected deep water and / or HPHT well design and drilling equipment.
•Support technology development activities, including: design reviews, prototype manufacturing, qualification and testing,
•Interface with Rig & SPS team members
•Support completion of required drilling scope project documentation: SOR, Functional specs, execution plans, RFI’s, RFP’s, interfaces, risks, equipment lists, etc.
•Compose technical documents and process them through technical writing and formal reviews for approval. Documents to include but not limited to:
-Decision Support Forms (DSF)
-Technical File Notes (TFN)
-Basis of Designs (BOD)
•Engage with BP-internal technical discipline experts for periodic peer guidance/feedback. Provide input to project management deliverables and processes including:
-Equipment system development and delivery schedule estimate.
-Development cost estimates.
-Project risks.
-Interface management processes.
-Formal Peer Reviews and Stage Gate Reviews

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•15+ years as a Drilling Engineer with deep water / subsea and HPHT experience.
•Strong communication and IT skills
•Skilful in casing design using WellCat and StressCheck
•Skilful in technical writing
•Front end drilling engineering and well design experience
•Operations experience on floating rigs
•HPHT experience (15ksi or other)
•Rig, Riser, BOPE and Subsea interface knowledge
•Industry (API) and Regulatory knowledge
